The Michigan Development Manager leads one functional team or activity within a development program. This position will be responsible for providing resources such as research, gift processing, stewardship, special events, or trips to a field program or within a WO Development department.
The Michigan Development Manager will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the Michigan program by developing and implementing tactics for approved Development plans, and completing and/or overseeing day-to-day tasks. S/he will interpret guidelines and analyze factual information to achieve results, improve workflow, and solve problems. S/he will provide recommendations and targeted training related to the functional activity s/he manages. The Development Manager must have advanced knowledge of the systems and resources utilized for the functional activity; applies knowledge to managing support and coordinating communications related to the resources. S/he will develop documentation, adapt processes, and participate in the enhancement of systems and tools used by the team. The Development Manager will keep up-to-date on philanthropic trends and best practices in order to improve services. The Michigan Development Manager works in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy staff, donors, volunteers, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions, and legal and accounting professionals. S/he will organize and coordinate diverse activities, projecting outcomes, and implementing solutions in consultation with leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Accountability for strategic goals related to functional area.

- Develop and implement new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved.
- Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Financial responsibility includes assisting with the development of a budget, working within a budget, and negotiating and contracting with vendors.
- Manage and implement multiple projects, including managing budget, setting deadlines and ensuring accountability.
- May manage or participate in complex negotiations.
- May supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, responsibility includes training and professional development.
- Travel occasionally, work long and flexible hours as needed.
- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
- Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines.
- Experience managing and implementing multiple projects.
- Experience negotiating agreements.
- Experience supervising staff, interns, and/or volunteers.
- Experience with current and evolving technology in relevant field.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
- Experience, coursework, or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.
