The Early Childhood Education Designer for pre-K and Kindergarten will be charged with evaluating and designing learning experiences for beginning early childhood educators in Chicago-Northwest Indiana. 

This person will work to create an arc of high quality learning experiences across a year that:

  • Align to teachers’ development that they receive at Summer Training and their University coursework
  • Are grounded in culturally responsive teaching practices, and build corps members’ knowledge, skills, and mindsets in leading their students to strong academic and personal growth
  • Enable corps members to reflect on their identity and develop as culturally competent leaders in the movement towards educational equity

 This is a part time position that starts in January and ends May 31st

Areas of Responsibility: 

The ECE Designer will work with the Director, Corps Member Learning as well as other Chicago-Northwest Indiana staff members. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Evaluate and Design Early Childhood Education Resources (80%)

  • Evaluate existing resources for alignment and design new learning experiences for Early Childhood corps members:
    • Analyze and evaluate current content and curricular resources that exist and determine alignment to current vision/goals
    • Develop a scope and sequence of learning experiences for early childhood corps members across a year that is aligned to the regional vision and goals for ECE and their University coursework
    • Design catalytic learning experiences (in person and virtual) that build teachers’ knowledge, skills, and mindsets around key pedagogical practices in ECE
    • Create resources that support and enhance the development of early childhood corps members
  • Stay on top of ECE research, pedagogy, and trends to support the development of the above
  • Collaborate with staff members and partners to ensure programmatic alignment for early childhood corps members

 Engage in Ongoing Development (20%)

  • Commit to learning about Teach For America’s Position on Adult Learning and embedding it into learning experiences
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through the reflection and analysis of staff feedback  and monitor progress towards goals
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Advanced degrees in education preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional work experience
  • Quantifiable success as an early childhood (pre-K/K) setting for a minimum of 2 full years and five or more years of experience highly preferred. Experience as a Teach For America corps member helpful, but not required.
  • Experience teaching in low income community preferred
  • Previous experience in designing and delivering high quality professional development to teachers
  •   Ability to place the end user at the center of design
  • Deep expertise in early childhood pedagogy for pre-K and K , including a deep understanding of and ability to apply current research and theory of early childhood
  • Strong understanding of culturally relevant pedagogy; ability to develop curriculum and learning experiences that are rooted in culturally relevant pedagogy and support all learners
  • Strong understanding of the Common Core State Standards, as well as a deep understanding of existing research and best practices in teaching this content area
  • Ability to design effective learning experiences for adults
  • Desire to learn constantly, and apply feedback and lessons learned to continuously improve work
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to build strong relationships with others in challenging situations
  • Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills
