The Youth Development Director will lead a team of coordinators and front-line staff to ensure the best-in-class execution of our afterschool program. Reporting to the Senior Program Director and working closely with the Youth Development team, this position will create and lead an ecosystem of innovative youth-serving programs at the assigned branch. As a member of the Branch Leadership Team, the Youth Development Director will create and embrace a diverse and inclusive YMCA community to grow our local impact, activate our global network and multiply our mission.
Areas of Responsibility:
Programmatic Responsibilities
- Facilitate the organization, management and operation of quality youth development programs. Responsibilities include on- site afterschool programs and leadership of family enrichment events/programs
- Ensure Program portfolio fully aligns with Regional and Association strategies, structure and quality standards.
- Build a network of Program volunteers through effective recruitment, training and stewardship.
- Champion a culture of best-in-class program quality and experience in all assigned areas, including on- and off-site programs, community partnerships and family events.
- Ensure Program areas are safe, clean, organized and ready to serve our participants.
- Develop and lead strategies to ensure members and/or program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Partner with marketing and communications department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas.
- Ensure high quality community-driven programs through innovative program development, evaluation, and ongoing training of staff.
- Take on additional Program area responsibility as district, regional or association priorities and needs change.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead through the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Lead and supervise afterschool, family/teen and assigned camp program departments by developing staff, executing business plans and driving a culture of service.
- Provide indirect guidance and support to aquatics, camp, early childhood education (ECE) and sports departments to create a cohesive Program experience.
- Utilize Association tools and standards in completing and administering performance evaluations and individual development plans.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a highly skilled and trained team of servant leaders.
- Plan and organize staff meetings to ensure consistent communications, directions and accountability.
- Manage biweekly payroll.
Operational Responsibilities
- Work symbiotically with Associate Executive Director and the Senior Program Director to develop, implement and manage operating plans that promote program and membership growth for the YMCA.
- Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
- Develop and manage annual budget within assigned areas. Demonstrate sound fiscal management skills.
- Meet and exceed monthly and annual goals in assigned departments, including registration levels, year-over-year retention, penetration rates and participant progression.
- Ensure safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds and equipment to minimize risk to members, participants and the Association.
- Provide leadership and support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor degree in related field.
Skills/Experience:
- Three years experience in a related field with comparable program growth.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, training and development of volunteers and staff.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification or ability to attain certification within three years of hire.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
- Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database management.
- High ethical standards and possess strong personal and professional integrity.
- Ability to successfully obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor), while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $16.83 - $19.71
