The LAR Finance Specialist provides specialized finance/accounting-related services to a department or business unit.
The LAR Finance Specialist provides specialized services in financial management and reporting; accounting; grants administration, management and reporting; or similar financial activities for a department or business unit that requires the support. They have a high level of expertise in their area(s) of specialization. The position administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures and best practices in financial management. The Finance/Accounting Specialist II provides assistance to staff in their specialty area. They respond to moderately complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area.
This position will start working for the Southern Andes business unit for approximately nine months and reporting directly to the Finance and Operations manager of this business unit, after this period, the position will shift to the Latin America Regional Office structure and will support all the five business units across Latin America. Supervision may also change after this period.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Coordinates projects.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.
- Perform general accounting duties, including journal entries for transfers, adjustments, accruals, deferred revenue and expense corrections.
- Support on reviewing and monitoring income statement and balance sheet (including pledges) items at month and year-end close;
- Provide timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to project managers
- Support Conservation and Development staff in reviewing budget proposals.
- Support in preparing forecast and budget for the Business Unit.
- Review revenues and expenses are managed to reflect donor intent including support to perform revenue allocation;
- Manage private funded awards including keep PCB module up to date (Cost assignment, invoicing and closing awards)
- Collaborate with Grants Specialists on managing public awards;
- Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally-charged information;
- Act as payment approver and employee expense reports reviewer ensuring that transactions are in accordance to the Conservancy policies and procedures as well as local laws.
- Report bank reconciliations and ensure they are completed timely and accurately.
- Oversee payroll report processes including Insight upload and review of Labor Distribution Report once published.
- Report and monitor foreign exchange impacts
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
- Non-profit accounting experience.
- May require technical expertise on complex accounting/financial issues.
- US government grants accounting experience may be preferred or required
