Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Program Director manages the daily operations of the Outdoor Education/Schools, User Groups and Family Programs. He / she will develop and market the programs in partnership with the Executive Director and Marketing teams, respectively. The Program Director will manage the departmental budgets in accordance with the Association goals and priorities. She /he also assists with other Camp Speers programs and events as needed. The Program Director schedules and coordinates all classes/activity sessions, evening programs and special events, ensures appropriate staff assignments and support, plays the lead role in the planning and development of the programs and acts as a key leadership team member in our Summer Resident Camping Programs. The Program Director supervises and evaluates the performance of their program staff. He/ she will also assist in the selection, and termination of employees.
- Schedule and coordinate all classes/activity sessions, evening programs and special events, ensure appropriate staff assignments and support, assist in the planning and development of outdoor education, conference and camping programs, and assist in the selection, supervision and termination of employees and volunteers.
- Assist in defining and planning the Outdoor Education, User Group and Family programs to reflect the goals and objectives set by the Executive Director and the mission of the YMCA.
- Develops and administers the departmental budget for Outdoor Education and User Group programs. Assist as needed with the overall budget process.
- Assist in developing and implementing a marketing program for recruiting new Outdoor Education and User Groups.
- Plan and implement intentional, consistent programs/activities that foster the development of skills and allow participants to connect with one another.
- Plans, develops and coordinates family programming that enhances healthy spirit, mind and body of participants and community families.
- Recruit and hire seasonal and hourly staff working for OE and User Groups. Supervise their employment by scheduling, training, evaluating, etc.
- Assist in developing and conducting all staff/volunteer trainings, including initial orientation training and in-service trainings.
- Evaluate those employees and volunteers that he/she supervises as to performance and responsibilities.
- In partnership with the ED and other department heads, engage with outside organizations through collaborations, partnerships, etc.
- Maintain and review records and evaluations of all programs, operations, staff, and facilities.
- Prepare an evaluation and summary of any program with direct involvement to include inventories, staff evaluations, reports, and recommendations for the following season.
- Define and monitor crisis/risk management plan, including emergency procedures.
- Maintain the standards required by the American Camping Association and Risk Management in any program.
- Be actively involved in the local community and the YMCA community through trainings and volunteering or being a member of a related organization to further your learning and networking.
- Assist in overseeing the housekeeping of the camp buildings, including cabins, dining halls, and program facilities during any group stay you are helping to facilitate.
- Support all camp departments, such as, Conference, Outdoor Education, Community, Maintenance, Kitchen, Office, Ranch, and Summer Camp as needed.
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp family.
- Meet program mission and core values of the YMCA.
- Maintain knowledge of Association policies and procedures, risk management, safety practices and applicable laws.
- Coordinate/train volunteers that work specifically in areas of assignment.
- Associates Degree (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in Recreation, Child/Adolescent Development, Outdoor Education/Leadership, Elementary or Secondary Education, or a related field and 1-3 years of experience working in a Camp or Recreational Environment.
- Desire and ability to work with people of all ages.
- Thorough understanding and appreciation for child and adolescent development and ability to design and implement programs, policies and protocols to support that development.
- Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in environmental education, and provide necessary instruction to campers, parents and staff.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles and meet the safe driving requirements of the association.
- Ability to motivate staff and customers.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- High energy, creative person with an understanding of the YMCA mission.
- Additional certifications (LGT, WSI, Ropes, etc…) a plus
- Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence
- Acquire and maintain the following certifications:
- CPR Pro/AED/O2 (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- First Aid (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- Requisite Redwoods Online Trainings (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
Salary: $30,300.00 - $38,800.00
