Located in Maitland, Florida, Audubon Center for Birds of Prey cares for more than 800 patients annually. The Center is part of the Audubon Florida statewide conservation program and is focused on the conservation of Florida's birds of prey (Raptors) and their habitats. The Raptor Care Assistant position is seasonal full-time position from January 1, 2019 to July 31, 2019. It is designed to assist Center staff in all areas of bird care. This individual will participate in the day-to-day operations of the raptor clinic, rehabilitation and/or husbandry of the Center’s resident raptors and be expected to maintain good communications within other departments of the Center, Audubon staff and volunteers in addition to the general public to actively help promote the Center’s programs and mission of caring for Florida’s raptors.
- Provide daily husbandry of the resident raptors including cleaning and feeding
- Assist with the husbandry of raptors under rehabilitation as well as assist in the coordination of their releases.
- Assist in the care of orphaned baby raptors and returning uninjured babies to their nests and/or fostering into a new nest.
- Assist clinic staff with medical examinations, daily medical treatments, cleaning and feeding
- Assist in the training and supervision of volunteers.
- Maintain and update records including admissions, medical and food charts, GIS maps, daily log books, monthly reports, project lists, etc.
- Participate in Audubon activities, fund raising and special events as necessary.
- Maintain positive working relations with staff, volunteers, veterinarian, donors and general public.
- Light facility maintenance required (janitorial and building maintenance)
- Answer phones, assist with rescues and/or releases when needed, provide information to general public and/or media as requested and other duties as assigned.
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, team player and ability to work with limited resources
- Current Florida Driver's License and access to personal vehicle.
- Weekend hours may be required; some evening work or emergency response may also be required

- Must be able to lift and carry at least 25 lbs, able to climb ladders and stairs, among other physical duties.
