The Director, Marketing and Communications develops, creates and implements marketing & communications strategies that align with overall goals for Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara and TNC in Indonesia.  Provides direction and leadership over Marketing & Communication team.

Areas of Responsibility: 

In general, the Director, Marketing & Communications develops and implements an integrated, efficient and effective marketing, communications, media and engagement plan to help drive organizational strategy.  S/he manages marketing & communications staff that create, manage, and implement key marketing & communication initiatives and/or marketing & communication programs designed to advance marketing & communications strategies that build awareness and engagement, influence conservation action, and achieve revenue goals. S/he works closely with fundraising leaders and teams and internal and external key stakeholders, including senior management and internal teams to ensure delivery of programs. Aligns staff efforts to match priorities set by senior management. Manages the budget and operational delivery of program or initiative goals and strategies. S/he develops and fosters relations with key persons in selected media.  S/he facilitates on-going communication between Indonesia business unit and external stakeholders and identifies communication and media needs and opportunities. S/he may work with Indonesia leadership team to implement strategies to strengthen communications channels and to develop and maintain staff engagement.  S/he develops and fosters relations with key persons in selected media. S/he manages communication strategies and program implementation for high profile or key audiences like Board of Directors, and country board of trustees. S/he manages the dissemination of media information.  Provides consultation, media training, coaching and talking points to persons serving as spokesperson(s).

Specific duties include:

Media Partnership

  • Engaging more than 5 top media group.
  • Strengthen media relation.
  • Exposure target to Tier 1 media (print, electronic, on-line).
  • Oversees the dissemination of media information and manages and executes TNC’s strategic communications effort.  S/he develops and fosters relations with key persons in selected media and related fields to promote TNC objectives.

Constant Messaging

  • Building awareness, interest, desire and action (educate: provide environmental education content, excite: create excitement through competition and events and engage: call for action and support TNC conservation programs). 
  • Ensures proper maintenance of websites including content updating.  S/he ensures the timely production and deployment of reports/publications. 
  • Leads the communication response in urgent/crisis-management situations and is the point person for ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Manages communication strategies and program implementation for high profile or key audiences like Board of Directors, country director and board of trustees.

Branding & Marketing Activities/Material & Collateral

  • Manages brand delivery and consistency in Indonesia in supporting the fundraising aligning with TNC global image as well as Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara as the local entity of TNC in Indonesia.
  • Manages the strategic and creative design of marketing activities & materials/collateral in supporting the fundraising aligning with TNC global image as well as Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara as the local entity of TNC in Indonesia.
  • Develops, coordinates and oversees programs, technical assistance and resource materials to assist various divisions in the marketing, communications and positioning of their program activities.

The Director, Marketing and Communications reports to the Country Director and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Designs, directs and manages multiple complex and diverse programs or projects coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget and ensuring program accountability.  
  • Broad management responsibility for administrative and professional staff that are responsible for key initiatives or programs.
  • Accountable for meeting strategic goals and objectives.
  • Financial responsibility includes developing and managing project and team budget objectives, evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.  Provides input to departmental budget process.
  • Opportunity to act independently within broad program goals.  Work checked through consultation and agreement with stakeholders rather by directives of superiors.
  • Decisions can commit the organization’s resources in a way that affects public image and have program-wide impact.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of 9 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Experience managing staff and teams.  
  • Experience developing marketing plans, media and engagement strategies and measuring results.
  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships.  
  • Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advance level proficient of English language is a must (oral and written).
  • Multi-cultural experience preferred.
  • Master’s degree or extensive professional experience.
  • Management experience including ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, manage performance and help with conflict resolution on a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communications, and presentation skills; ability to persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups including donors, board members and the public.
  • Experience fostering an environment of creativity and professional growth.  
  • Experience developing, implementing, and measuring strategic marketing plans and programs.  
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and managing budgets.  
  • Excellent communications, mediation and negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices.  Experience and/or understanding of communication best practices at a decentralized organization.
  • Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects.  
  • Knowledge and application of current and evolving trends in relevant discipline. 
  • Cross disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
