The Sports & Wellness Director is responsible for the administration of youth sports and adult programs.  This includes but is not limited to adult group exercise classes; youth leagues, camps, clinics, and classes.  Responsibilities include monitoring program enrollment and satisfaction; engaging with members and program participants; being a role model for members, program participants, staff and volunteers; and development and implementation of programs to meet the needs of the ever changing community.  This position requires an individual that possesses strong communication and program development skills along with the ability to mult-task.  The position also requires regular evening and weekend work.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of and maintain relationships within the community while fulfilling the YMCA objectives.
  • Work with the Marketing & Communications Director to market and distribute program information.
  • Develop and monitor budgets for the Youth and Wellness departments as well as Member Services.
  • Create schedules for staff in the Youth and Wellness departments and Member Services.
  • Approve staff time for payroll.
  • Supervision of year-round competitive youth basketball leagues which includes securing facilities and officials, as well as distribution of schedules, rules and regulations.
  • Supervision of USAG competitive gymnastics team and lessons ensuring ssafety of participants and equipment at all times.  Ensure hiring and training of qualified coaches as well as ensuring necessary certifications required by USAG and the Y are current.
  • Supervision of an AAU Volleyball League which includes securing facilities and officials, as well as distribution of schedules, rules and guidelines.
  • Coordinate use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Select, train, evaluate, and retain staff and volunteers to provide appropriate services to the community as trainers, instructor and coaches.
  • Oversee all other youth programs not mentioned above, group exercise programs, personal training, and fitness staff.
  • Develop and implement a full range of fitness and athletic programs to meet the needs of the members and the Branch's service area.  This is to include special events.
  • Contribute to membership growth and retention, placing the needs of the members as a key priority at all times.
  • Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Assure positive communication is occurring between staff, members and program participants.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to help plan, train, motivate, and oversee the annual campaign.
  • Enforce all personnel policies and guidelines in accordance of the YMCA of Centre County.
  • Any other additional duties as assigned by the Branch Director.
Educational Background: 
Bachelors Degree in kinesiology, physical education, recreation, or closely related field.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge, skill, and experience in the development, supervision, and leading of a wide variety of physical and non-physical recreational and educational activities.
  • Must demonstrate previous experience in leadership with both children and adults, as well as sound, mature judgement.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from various social and econimic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $30,000.00 - $34,000.00
