The Board of Directors of the J. Smith Young Family YMCA is seeking a leader to build upon the rich history and financial success of the YMCA. The next CEO must meet the challenge of maintaining the strong financial momentum while setting a vision for the future with innovative and creative ways to serve the entire community. It is important to continue this level of service and support through the development of leadership staff to create new programs and ways to serve more people throughout the entire service area.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Key deliverables within the first 18 months:

  • Create successful and strategic marketing plan to communicate the impact and services of the YMCA for ALL.
  • Complete implementation of the strategic plan by aligning staff and committees to
  • Achieve measurable goals therein with launch renewal planning and communicating these benchmarks with the Board of Directors.
  • Initiate new programs and services that seek opportunities to serve all in outlying neighborhoods within the Y’s service area.
  • Create value added programs and membership initiatives to increase membership and retention.
  • Explore opportunities for keep the facilities updated and maximize use for community outreach and programs.
  • Opportunities to grow the endowment efforts through heritage club initiatives this will allow the Y to increase building reserves to manage maintenance and repairs, facilities upkeep and renovations, and allow for opportunities for growth.
Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree (required; non-negotiable)
Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Candidate Criteria:

  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and personal values consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum ten years prior experience in a senior leadership role with a Y or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Have the ability to develop new programs, review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and the effectiveness in broadening our engagement in the communities in which we serve.
  • Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns, securing of grant and execution of a capital campaign.
  • Fiscally sound business management approach.

Preferred Candidate Criteria:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (Note: Candidates not already in possession of this certification have up to three years to obtain via YMCA of the USA).
  • A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $1.0M or more annually.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary Range: $70,000 - $105,000 commensurate with experience.

Benefits: Retirement Plan-10% paid by the YMCA. The Y pays 80% of employee health insurance and up to $800/year for dental expenses. Vacation, sick, and holiday pay per personnel policy. Cell phone provided.
