Teach For America - South Carolina’s Director, Executive Support & Operations will play a pivotal leadership role in increasing the cultural and professional experience of South Carolina regional team members. This role will impact the staff experience in many ways by ensuring our Executive Strategy team is successful through executive director support, recruitment and hiring strategy, regional operations, and financial operations. This director will ensure that these strategies are envisioned, managed and executed effectively and keeping us on a path toward our Ten Year vision and priorities. A collaborative work ethic is critical in this role as you will be interfacing with the entire regional staff at multiple points throughout the year.  The Director, Executive Support and Operations will report directly to the Chief of Staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Provide Executive Support to Executive Director (30%)

  • Support the Executive Director to maximize his time in leading the region
  • Manage the Executive Director’s schedule, travel arrangements, logistic surveys, technology, reimbursements and expense reports
  • Maintain the Executive Director’s database of contacts in Outlook and in the customer relationship system
  • Draft correspondence and manages the follow up on behalf of the Executive Director
  • Manage Charleston office, coordinating purchasing of office supplies, maintaining relationship with office management, and more

Manage Recruitment and Hiring Strategies (30%)

  • Design and facilitate resources and learning experiences centered around cultural competence in recruitment and hiring for regional hiring managers
  • Revamp regional hiring tools, processes and trainings to assess new/revised competencies and core values, and to better evaluate things named in our new organizational talent philosophy (learning, management, cultural competence, etc.)
  • Update JobScience portal to move people along in hiring process. Communicate and schedule any necessary interviews.
  • Coach and advise hiring managers in the region in operating with cultural competence in recruitment and hiring
  • Liaise with the national Talent Acquisition Team, the regional Human Assets Generalist and legal affairs team re: recruiting and hiring with legality and in compliance with Teach For America’s hiring systems and processes

Execute Financial Operations (30%)

  • Design and facilitate resources and learning experiences to ensure all staff members in the region are able to meet finance compliance expectations
  • Manage the regional budget tracking process and be accountable to ensuring compliance with the organization-wide finance expectations
  • Act as a buyer for the organization to make purchases, process invoices, and other financial needs
  • Ensure all team members meet submission requirements for reimbursements (monthly), timesheets (weekly), and American Express reports (monthly, as needed) to support the organization’s financial standing

South Carolina Regional Team Responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in regional matriculation efforts by owning a portfolio of 2-5 matriculants across 4-5 matriculation windows.
  • Participate in and complete Staff Meeting pre-work and attend monthly regional meetings
  • Support and participate in regional events
  • Drive own professional development with support from manager and others to include mandatory PD requirements of the region (i.e.: Racial Equity Institute trainings)
  • Engage in community opportunities that have personal meaning/connection
  • Understand and effectively communicate Teach For America-South Carolina’s programmatic initiatives, goals, and impact externally and internally
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-5 years of work experience preferred
  • Previous experience building and leveraging relationships across multiple layers
  • Previous experience directly or laterally managing others to strong outcomes
  • Previous experience in cross-functional planning and implementation of philosophy, culture and systems

 Work Demands

  • Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to attend or facilitate external or TFA-SC corps member or regional events
  • Ability to travel by car to in-person meetings in various South Carolina cities regularly
  • Must be willing to work from a Teach For America - South Carolina Office in either North Charleston or Florence, SC
