The Director of Arts & Humanities is responsible for operations in areas of artistic direction, administrative and organizational, promotion and public relations and program development of the overall arts and humanities program of the YMCA of Frederick County. This position provides leadership to program staff that reflects the mission and goals of the YMCA of Frederick County.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruit, hire, supervise and schedule a quality support staff for the department.
- Assure personal growth of staff through consultations, trainings, conferences, department meetings and reviews.
- Guide staff in the administration of quality programs by providing support, seeing that policies and procedures are followed, and goals are set and met.
- Ensure all related programs meet local, state and YMCA regulations.
- Ensure all programs offered meet the association and community needs and include character counts in them.
- Maintain written records / reports/ related paperwork for activities and programs as deemed necessary.
- Prepare annual operational budgets for assigned areas including detailed justifications.
- Manage and stay within the budget guidelines for the department.
- Oversee and provide support for various YMCA special events and fundraisers – including the Annual Campaign.
- Act as liaison to other YMCA of Frederick departments – including attending leadership and downtown leadership meetings
- Assure customer satisfaction by making sure that staff have the resources necessary to provide members and program participants with the highest level of customer service.
- Generate written records and documentation including: program vouchers, expense reports, travel reports, variance reports and support efforts between Finance, Facilities and Financial Aid departments.
- Assure proper maintenance and cleanliness of program areas in coordination with the Director of Facilities.
- Support camp functions in the Arts & Humanities department including Imagination Station, Musical Theater & Foreign Languages
- Work in conjunction with the marketing department to get the maximum exposure for program areas so that members/program participants are well informed of what is offered.
- Help recruit and incorporate volunteers into program areas.
- Required to be Cause-Drive Leader on duty periodically throughout the year.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Educational Background:
Individual must possess a bachelor’s degree in education, dance or drama.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years professional work experience in the related field may be substituted for the degree.
- Preferred qualifications: Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) or Arts Administration or Business Management

- Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and AED
- Code of Conduct Training
- Blood Borne Pathogens Training
Compensation/Benefits:
$31,000.00 - $36,000.00
