Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, this position will be key in guiding resource development and implementation of high quality YMCA aquatic programs to enhance the member and program participant YMCA experience and promote long-term involvement through a variety of exceptional programs and services that results in nurturing the potential in children (youth development), supporting members in their wellness journey (healthy living), and driving advocacy and community awareness (social responsibility).

Areas of Responsibility: 

The position will be responsible for: aquatic safety; policy compliance; leadership of aquatic initiatives including swim lessons, swim instructor development, lifeguard training, in-service training, in collaboration with the Director of Leadership Development and Diversity, Inclusion & Global Strategies, and overall program growth and quality at select Centers of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis; serve as subject matter expert to the Aquatics Cabinet team and manages the related chart of work; assist with developing and maintaining relationships with schools and other community partners to expand aquatic efforts within the community and achieve the goals set forth in the strategic plan; non-direct supervision of aquatics directors.

Educational Background: 
BA/BS in Health, Physical Education, related field or equivalent experience. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of five years of aquatic supervision experience in a wide variety of aquatic environments including swim lessons, swim teams, drowning prevention/water safety programs,  training and pool operations/maintenance. 
  • Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and train staff
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation). 
  • Expert and up to date knowledge of aquatics services/trends, aquatics practice standards, development and quality standards/guidelines. Familiarity with fitness educational resources
  • Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals.
  • Outstanding instructional skills, including ability to motivate and lead individuals at a high level. Proven ability to prioritize and take initiative. 
  • Proven organizational and project management skills
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $44,069.22 - $55,086.52
