We have been serving Central Minnesota since 1969. In June 2017, we partnered with the City of St. Cloud to open our new 106,000 sq. ft. full service Y including: 2 large pools, 3 basketball courts, 3 fitness studios, kid zone, 2 youth program studios, climbing wall and track. Our $5 million budget serves over 17,000 members and guests with aquatic, wellness and youth programs.

The Head Swim Coach will oversee the YMCA Swim Team practices and meets, in line with the YMCA’s serving beginning to advance competitive athletes. The St. Cloud Area Family YMCA has an amazing feeder program from swim lessons, to prep, to competitive swimmers, including national-caliber athletes. The Head Coach is expected to serve as a role model for the assistant coaches and the participants on the Swim Team, exemplifying integrity and the key characteristics we expect of our staff: Caring, Respect, Responsibility and Honesty. In addition, the Head Coach should be a mentor for sportsmanship and team spirit to participants on the swim team, while being able to foster skills and professional development of assistant coaches and skills of swimmers. This person should positively affect the operation of the branch.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coach swim practices, with Assistant Coaches, to ensure there are components of learning as well as fun
  • Assist with, and attend, swim team events (set up and take down)
  • Work on the development of the program and development of your assistant coaches
  • Attend weekly meeting with Director and Coaches to debrief on previous week and discuss upcoming weeks’ activities/tasks and to solicit feedback to continuously improve the program week to week
  • Co-manage Parent Swim Meetings
  • Handle the administrative work associated with managing a swim team: schedules, meet logistics, practices format, and email correspondence to parents
  • Provide season evaluations of the overall swim team to identify any potential areas for improvement
  • Follow all safety procedures and precaution
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program
  • Build relationships within the community to increase participation of the swim team
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner
Skills/Experience: 
  • Effectively and proactively communicate & support coaches, swimmers, and parents
  • Ability to perform light physical activity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and structure work outs to meet a range of swimming abilities
  • To give direction to members of coaching staff, team and volunteers
  • Diplomatic and calm demeanor

BASIC COACHING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current Lifeguard, CPR, AED & First Aid certifications and/or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches
  • YMCA/USA Certified Swim Coach preferred and/or ASCA Level 3 certification
  • Technical swimming proficiency
Compensation/Benefits: 

Benefits: Y Membership, Health, Dental, PTO and holiday time off, retirement 7% paid by Y upon meeting eligibility requirements.

Salary: $33,000.00 - $45,000.00
