We have been serving Central Minnesota since 1969. In June 2017, we partnered with the City of St. Cloud to open our new 106,000 sq. ft. full service Y including: 2 large pools, 3 basketball courts, 3 fitness studios, kid zone, 2 youth program studios, climbing wall and track. Our $5 million budget serves over 17,000 members and guests with aquatic, wellness and youth programs.
The Aquatics Director is a part of our branch leadership team and is expected to be a role model - committed to the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
The Aquatics Director is responsible for providing safe, engaging aquatic programs. There must be a strong commitment to safety, as well as to creating an engaging environment for both members and staff. This position supervises a Full Time Coordinator and a Head Swim Coach, including additional lead staff, lifeguards, swim instructors and seasonal aquatic staff. Our YMCA has an 8-lane indoor pool, a family recreational pool (water features/slide) and supervises 2 wading pools seasonally.
The best candidate will have current lifeguard certifications and a willingness to be trained in YMCA swim lesson instruction. Additionally, the candidate will be a team player, ready to jump in and work with the team to achieve our goals. This position is a hands-on job with hours spent supervising staff, developing staff, lifeguarding, teaching swimming and being part of the branch leadership team.
- One to two years related experience; preferred; for example, as an Aquatics Coordinator or Supervisor, including staff and volunteer supervision, program development, budget management, and fund raising.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific and trainer certifications. Typical requirements within 60 days of hire include: completion of: CPR; First Aid; AED, CPO License.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability/experience training Aquatic employees.
- Current state approved first-aid, AED and CPR certifications.
- Current YMCA Lifeguard trainer or equivalent certification.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and to represent the Y in a professional manner. Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong computer skills, including word processing, database, spreadsheet software, and web-based applications.
