The Aquatics Director is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, supervising and evaluating activities that relate to the aquatics department.
Areas of Responsibility:
Member Relationship, Loyalty and Involvement
- Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
- Support branch/department initiatives related to membership retention and Annual Giving goals.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
Operational Performance
- Establish and evaluate aquatic emergency action procedures including training staff, planning effective communication systems and preventive action steps.
- Promote, administer, and lead in development and implementation of aquatic programs and services.
- Assure adequate lifeguard and program coverage for all shifts for all pool facilities and programs. Covers shifts when staff are absent or additional staff is required.
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate pool water chemical balance, cleanliness in and around pool and locker rooms, and standard maintenance including backwashing, mechanical systems, and pool vacuuming.
- Responsible for all aquatic rentals and staffing aquatic special events including, but not limited to swim meets, birthday parties, SCUBA and baptisms.
Management and Leadership
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the department budget. Authorizes department expenditures within allotted budget; provides budget reports in a timely manner including budget preparation and monthly income/expense controls and justifications.
- Supervise and manage all branch aquatic programs.
- Maintain a high quality of standards, adhering to or surpassing the YMCA of Roanoke Valley aquatic standards.
- Responsible for the operations of the aquatic department: train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all aquatic staff ensuring all aquatic and safety policies are followed and required certifications are up to date.
- Promote, administer, and lead in the development and implementation of programs for special populations and services.
- Develop and implement program of certification, training and in-service for all staff in assigned area. Conduct trainings and audits.
- Enhance the experience of aquatic program participants by facilitating and initiating positive programs and good communication.
- Provides support to swim team participants, parents, and coaches to ensure a successful program. Serves as a swim team coach as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the YMCA.
- All other duties as assigned.
Team Effectiveness
- May act as a building supervisor for assigned evenings and “on-call” weekends.
- Represent the branch at Aquatic Cabinet and Swim League meetings.
Educational Background:
A High school degree or its equivalent with a bachelor’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of Aquatics experience necessary.
- Project management, time management and multi-tasking skills necessary.
- Proficiency in computer skills with Microsoft office preferred.
- Previous experience in water safety, swim lesson, pool management, and swim team operation is essential. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
- Prior experience supervising or leading others is required.
- Must have current YMCA/Red Cross/Ellis Lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certification.
- Swim Instructor, Water Fitness, Swim Team and Oxygen Administration (O2) certifications desired.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $35,000.00
