The Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Executive Director of the North Central Florida YMCA (“YMCA”) is hired by and reports directly to the Board of Directors. This YMCA has gone through tremendous challenges within the last few years; in 2013 the North Central Florida YMCA filed for Chapter 11 and emerged from it in 2014 with an aggressive five year plan. Due to continued challenges, they also looked at closing their doors at the end of 2016 but were able to gain the support of the community to continue serving the members. The YMCA celebrated their 50th year of community impact on June 24, 2017 and has the heart and determination of the little engine that could. At each challenging time they emerged.

The next leader must be an active and engaging leader who aligns resources and efforts to address the needs of the community. The new CEO/Executive Director is responsible for advocating the YMCA Vision within the community by engaging and connecting key stakeholders. The CEO/Executive Director must have strong fiscal management experience, experience with improving operations and facility management and strong leadership skills. Individuals with collaborations/partnering experience is preferred. The skills to take initiative, motivate, delegate and lead others successfully are also essential components for the preferred candidate. Organization goals will be met by ensuring that: the strategic plan is initiated, measurable goals and outcomes are achieved, realistic and ambitious funding goals are met, community outreach and partnerships are established and attainable operational goals are implemented in order to create high impact programs. It is essential the CEO/Executive Director convenes key community leaders, partners, funders, the public, and faith based, governmental and other nonprofits to enhance the work of the Y in the community. This is an outstanding opportunity for a passionate visionary with a successful track record in fund development, team leadership and operational excellence to play a critical role in community impact.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Fiscal Management: Ensure the Y’s financial resources are properly managed and report on its accurate financial position. Use high level financial analysis to forecast trends, growth and stability while consistently leading the Y to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue, contributions and controlling costs. Empower and guide staff to lead their departments and monitor and meet their budgets. Develop and implement stewardship strategies.

  • Improve Operating Performance: Partner with the board to identify issues and develop an annual tactical plan (which  aligns with the strategic plan) to achieve key YMCA goals and objectives. Remain fully informed of all operational issues and be able to quickly address issues that arise as well as forecast future needs. Manage and direct the Y’s operations and activities.

  • Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Work with board of directors, volunteers, community leaders and key staff to identify critical community needs and develop a strategic roadmap focused on organizational strategies. Lead staff in the development and implementation of goals through an annual operating plan. Lead volunteers in aligning committees and their charts of work to support the strategies and goals of the Y.

  • Build and Manage the Staff Team: Serve as a leader who will motivate, engage, and retain staff in a positive and productive manner by creating and setting an expectation for excellence. Demonstrate an engaging, open, caring, positive and inclusive leadership style and display integrity, a high regard for honesty and courage and an open mind to innovative ways of improving services and expanding impact.

Educational Background: 
Accredited 4-year college degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and have personal values that are consistent with the YMCA mission.
  • Minimum five years prior experience in a leadership role with the YMCA or related experience at a comparable organization with direct supervision of multiple levels of staff and employees.
  • Must have the ability to develop and strengthen community relationships.
  • Must have the ability to develop new programs and to review and enhance programs being offered or considered for both economy and effectiveness in broadening our engagement with the communities in which we serve.

Preferred Criteria for Candidates:

  • YMCA Organizational Leader Certification (or obtain within 3 years of employment).
  • Fiscally sound business management approach.
  • Strategic planning and fundraising experience including annual campaigns and the securing of grants.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and fiscal management in excess of $500K or more annually with an emphasis on growing an organization.
  • Experience in a turnaround situation where there was significant debt is preferred.
  • A track record of inspiring and developing volunteer boards.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00
