The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Government Affairs Coordinator provides analyst level support to the Government and Community Relations team by assisting with the planning and implementation of WWP’s legislative, advocacy, and partnership and investment operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provide support to the Government and Community Relations team, including the Community Partnerships and Investments and Legislative Affairs staff, in their work with WWP partner organizations. Organize and maintain advocacy resources including file and calendar management and assisting with project tracking.
  • Perform data analyses to support reporting and decision-making. Prepare reports for Legislative Affairs team.
  • Research, track, and analyze federal legislative and regulatory matters of interest to WWP and report on the legislative progress. Regularly monitor government and industry news and developments. Provide updates to GCR leadership.
  • Assist the Legislative Affairs and GCR Communications teams with creation of collateral highlighting highlight WWP advocacy initiatives and communicating WWP public policy positions to internal and external audiences.
  • Assist the Legislative Affairs team to plan and implement high-profile policy initiatives, e.g., meetings and roundtables, corresponding with member offices and staffers.
  • Research and annotate executive and legislative branch (federal, state, and local) transcripts, press releases, studies, documents, public events, and other information relevant to WWP policy initiatives. Provide updates to GCR leadership.
  • Assist with special projects and initiatives.
  • Establish effective working relationships and collaborate with WWP teammates to advance the mission and GCR program strategy and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training and certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, to analyze complex information, and to recommend creative, practical, and high-impact solutions.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe software.
  • Strong internet navigation and research skills, database management, and customer relationship management software. Demonstrated understanding of data and digital platforms.
  • Working understanding of program management and project management, including analyzing outcomes and impact.
  • Good understanding of relationship management and partnering. Well-developed interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated customer-relationship skills. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters with diplomacy, empathy, and confidentiality, and build effective working relationships.
  • Strong professional presence and demeanor.
  • High energy level. Self- starter; willing to take initiative.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage workflows, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of military service organization (MSO) and veteran service organization (VSO) community needs, concerns, issues, and trends.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Three years of experience providing administrative support; or three years of experience working in the federal government; or three years of experience with an organization performing policy or legislative affairs work.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, business, management, communication, or related field.
  • Two years of military experience or working with veteran’s organizations.
  • Two years of experience working with a non-profit organization.
