Teach For America – Detroit is seeking a Manager, Marketing and Communications to own the strategy and execution of all regional communications and marketing streams. This role will serve as the region’s primary storyteller, compelling internal and external constituents to champion our work. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and excels at translating their passion for our mission into written and visual communications strategies that compel diverse stakeholders. This position will frequently require quick and urgent action as we respond to new opportunities, needs and challenges.  Finally, the Manager, Marketing and Communications will need to enthusiastically develop rapport with team members across functional teams, as they will be responsible for investing teammates in the regional communications vision and strategy.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Regional External Communications (40%)

  • Partner with regional staff from all functional teams to ensure streamlined, consistent communications to all constituents
  • Create and publish regular newsletters, tailored to meet the needs and interests of a variety of external stakeholders
  • Serve as liaison to national media and communications team, which includes driving the execution of regional media and communications strategy
  • Manage regional response to inquiries and rapid response protocols for crisis communications
  • Develop strategies to promote the voices of TFA-Detroit corps members, alumni and supporters
  • Create and distribute executive messages, prepare presentations, and internal memos

Marketing (40%)

  • Oversee TFA-Detroit’s online presence, managing the regional site and social media strategy and execution (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Work closely with the development team to create messages and materials for all TFA-Detroit events and engagements
  • Collaborate with the development team to design and distribute communications (individualized and mass) to funders
  • Develop and continuously update a library of regional collateral (one-pagers, Powerpoint decks, reports, brochures, and digital media)
  • Develop compelling profiles of corps members, alumni and students to be compiled in a region-wide story bank and utilized as needed

Regional Internal Communications (10%)

  • Write and organize regular communications for the entire regional team and between functional teams
  • Partner across the regional team to ensure we are operating with the strategy and resources to drive alignment and bold improvements in communications across all regional stakeholders - staff, corps members, alumni, and external stakeholders

Ongoing Regional Responsibilities (10%)

  • Participate in and support various regional efforts, including some nights and weekends, to support corps member and alumni development
  • Support efforts that impact corps members and alumni across the continuum including but not limited to corps member selection, various alumni campaigns, ongoing AmeriCorps data collection and tracking, etc.
  • Serve as an “all hands on deck” team member willing to support the region in various ways as needs and opportunities arise, which embodies the spirit of the TFA-Detroit regional team
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years of marketing, communications or public relations experience
  • Teach For America experience (staff or corps) preferred

  • Exceptional communicator: can write and speak clearly and compellingly about our organization, mission, and goals
  • Excellent relationship building skills and track record of mobilizing peers to achieve results through social media, press and word of mouth marketing campaigns
  • Passion for and experience with communities and/or students in Detroit that translates to an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders across all lines of difference
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or other desktop publishing software skills preferred
