Wounded Warrior Project's (WWP) Direct Mail Specialist uses data analysis to drive strategy for the Wounded Warrior Project acquisition and donor cultivation programs. In this position, the specialist will especially focus on the execution of acquisition, new to file, and lapsed campaigns, from concept to post-delivery analysis. The specialist will also forecast the fiscal year budget, manage external agencies, and oversee critical performance metrics within direct mail and across direct response channels.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Drive strategy regarding the Direct Mail Acquisition, New-To-File, and Lapsed programs using data and list analysis
- Develop strategy, tracking, and reporting with regard to all direct mail programs, especially acquisition
- Manage direct mail analytical vendors and drive performance initiatives.
- Implement quantitative across direct mail programs
- Collaborate with vendors to set donor segmentation strategy in all programs including donor renewal
- Ensure all Direct Mail campaigns and segments are tracked
- Conduct weekly status meetings with vendors.
- Monitor the Direct Mail FY budget, expenses, gross revenue, and performance to ensure the program is within budget
- Identify data trends, and make recommendations for the Direct Mail fiscal year strategic plan
- Create and maintain monthly and yearly direct mail performance reports
- Provide monthly forecasting reports to the finance team
- Work with accounting and vendors to improve invoice tracking
- Work with vendors to update and ensure the accuracy of external direct mail reporting
- Assist other resource development teams with strategy and vendor coordination regarding their direct response efforts
- Work with resource development teams to create integrated direct response direct mail campaigns.
- Collaborate with the Online and Direct Response Television teams to strategize and execute integration initiatives.
- Oversee annual acquisition planning to identify opportunities to integrate with other teams
- Cultivate opportunities to increase the house database, improve donor retention, and long-term value
- Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, and Program teams to support execution of integrated Direct Response campaigns
- Assist Direct Response Marketing Manager with creating strategic FY mail plan and budget
- Work with the finance team, the Direct Response Mail manager, and vendors to systematize budget tracking and reporting
- Drive efforts to select and onboard new agencies and vendors
- Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or communications or another quantitative field required.
Master's degree in a data science, statistics, economics, or another quantitative field preferred
Skills/Experience:
- Superlative quantitative acumen and ability to make complex data-driven decisions
- Inherent understanding of direct marketing and production processes, specifically Direct Mail, Online and Direct Response Television
- Ability to take initiative, drive team performance goals, and effectively troubleshoot while focusing on innovative solutions
- Strong business acumen with the ability to monitor, compile and analyze data to guide decision-making
- Highly effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature, and professional manner
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize, delegate, and ensure that deadlines are met
- Strong process and vendor management skills
- Strong math aptitude and analytic skills, including academic or real world experience using statistics effectively
- Ability to remain flexible and work within a collaborative and fast paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (both in person & via phone)
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of four (4) years combined experience in any of the following areas: direct response fundraising; list brokerage; data science; analytics or related fields required
- Minimum one (1) year experience managing staff or vendors preferred
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience using statistics or data analytics preferred
- Experience using statistical software, specifically SAS, preferred
