The Global Human Resources (“HR”) Division of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an Associate to provide administrative assistance to the Pre-Hire Unit, which is responsible for all aspects of recruitment and onboarding, as well as internship/fellowship programs and other organizational-wide initiatives. This position reports to the Associate Director who leads the Pre-Hire Unit.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Serve as the focal point at HRW across multiple global jurisdictions for all fellowship and internship vacancies, inquiries, recruitment, and onboarding;
- Support orientations and trainings, coordinate in-house educational opportunities, liaise with staff to set up internship programs in line with local laws and customs, and act as a mentor and offer guidance and mediation when required;
- Maintain intern records in the Human Resources Management System (“HRMS”) and ensure that all data is entered and accurate; Maintain HR filing systems and ensure the ongoing integrity of electronic personnel records;
- Utilize a variety of HR systems, including HCM platforms, recruitment and onboarding modules, document management tools, and electronic signature tools;
- Create reports and extract and analyze data from one or more sources in order to provide effective data reporting;
- Conduct outreach to universities and educational organizations that administer internship programs and assist the Associate Director in representing HRW at career fairs and similar events;
- Coordinate departmental meetings, organization-wide special events, trainings, etc.;
- Assist the HR team on special projects; and
- Perform other tasks as needed.
Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required.
Skills/Experience:
- A minimum of one year of human resources experience, preferably with a global company, is required.
Related Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong computer knowledge, including Windows, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat Professional, database management, and internet research, is required. Experience with UltiPro, M-Files, and/or ZenDesk is highly desirable.
- Ability to create HR forms, organizational charts, various reports, data tracking systems, and marketing materials is required.
- Prior experience assisting with the recruitment and onboarding process, particularly screening, is required.
- Knowledge of internship and volunteer laws in the US as well as globally is highly desirable.
- Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize competing demands with minimal supervision, and handle numerous tasks simultaneously while maintaining a strong attention to detail is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization are required.
- Excellent client service and support skills are required.
- Analytical skills and the ability to solve problems creatively are required.
- Good judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required.
- Excellent time-management skills are required.
- Strong oral and written communications skills in English are required; fluency in French, Arabic, German, and/or Spanish is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a team of talented professionals in multiple global locations is highly desirable.
- Strong generalist understanding of HR processes is highly desirable.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary and Benefits: Salary range starts at $46,279. Human Rights Watch offers comprehensive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, an outstanding retirement savings plan and twenty (20) days of vacation per year.
