Position Summary

Free Group Rides are a core component of how Cascade Bicycle Club engages with the Puget Sound Bicycling Community.  This unique program involves 300 volunteer ride leaders who create and support a variety of different kinds of rides throughout the year, ideal for both new and established riders with over 2500 different rides annually.

The Rides Program Manager oversees, manages, and promotes Cascade Bicycle Club’s Rides Program, including Free Group Rides (FGR), Tours, Ride Around Washington, Cascade Training Series (CTS), and other ride programs as needed. This staff position provides leadership and management to the Rides Program to meet its expansion and diversification objectives and to support the strategic objectives of the club. The Rides Program Manager Co-Chairs Cascade’s Rides Committee, RAW Committee, and CTS Committee and is responsible for the strategic direction and annual work plans of the Free Group Rides and other programs and supports the 300 or so volunteers of the ride leader community. This position reports to the Director of Rides and Events.

 

Core Responsibilities

Outreach & Programming

  • Identify and develop new ride opportunities in communities that have limited or no participation in Cascade rides with the goal of creating new, self-sustaining rides serving new riders and communities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with organizations, community groups, businesses, and others to promote, expand, diversify, and support the Rides Program.
  • In cooperation with the Club’s Marketing and Communications Department, ensure the development and execution of a rides program marketing plan and its coordination with club-wide marketing, to expand the number and diversity of riders participating on daily rides and training series rides.
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to collaborate with and support other Cascade programs (i.e. Events, Education, and Advocacy) to advance the mission of the Club.
  • Help build, implement and manage a functional, efficient, and effective structure for the recruitment and involvement of volunteers as ride leaders.
  • Actively engage in Free Group Rides, including participating in and leading rides, to ensure a close connection with both the ride leader and rider community. Ride participation and ride leader activity are part of the Rides Manager’s formal duties.
  • Ensure that TS and other training series are developed and supported to meet the needs of both new and experienced event riders and are executed effectively.

 

Management

  • Organize and supervise the various volunteer committees, contractors and consultants as appropriate to ensure the rides program, including Free Group Rides, Tours, Cascade Training Series, and the annual RAW Tour are effectively executed, and new rides and series are developed to meet the needs of a diverse range of riders and communities.
  • Develop annual rides program work plans and budgets in conjunction with the Rides Committee and other supporting volunteer committees.
  • Partner with club staff to establish systems that support the smooth operation and tracking of the rides program including technology, communications, administration, etc.
  • Ensure the infrastructure and systems of CBC meet the needs of the Rides Program including communicating daily rides to the public, ride leader communications, and development of ride leader, ride and rider data necessary for the effective management of rides programs.

 

Rides Committee Responsibilities

  • Ensure a robust calendar of daily rides that appeal to a wide range of diverse riders and that expand the geographical reach of the Club.
  • Grow the number and diversity of certified ride leaders to support the Club’s goals and increase the Club’s capacity to expand and diversify its rides and tours offerings.
  • Develop and manage ride leader awards, incentives, and recognition programs.
  • Periodically review, revise, and publish ride leader guidelines and policies.
  • Ensure that ride offerings, ride leaders and participants in Cascade rides programs adhere to the standards and policies of Cascade Bicycle Club.

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to ride a bicycle with a desire to participate in and lead daily rides at a variety of paces and distances.
  • Desire to build communities that bicycle and to bring the opportunity to bicycle to underserved and diverse communities and to people that represent a wide range of comfort and familiarity with bicycle riding.
  • Experience and capability of Social Media.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with and inspiring volunteers to action.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be attentive to detail, and to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative style, can-do attitude, and confident and poised with the public.
  • Commitment to Cascade’s mission.
  • Salesforce experience a plus.

 

Work Schedule Requirement

  • Availability and willingness to frequently work evenings, weekends, and odd hours to lead rides and tours.
  • Availability and willingness to travel at least one week for tours.  Details will be provided by the Director of Rides & Events.

 

Salary Range

$45,000-$59,000 annually.  This is a full-time, exempt position.

Due to the large-scale nature of events and their importance to the fiscal well-being Cascade, staff members are required to work several events a year, a mix of mandatory all-hands events and choice events. This position will also require a large amount evening and weekend work and some travel.
