Under the direction of the CEO, the Sr. Program Director conducts, administers and or supervises the leadership of all current and new programs of the Kankakee Y. This position is responsible for leading multiple program areas; hiring and directing staff; budget development; building relationships with members, volunteers and community leaders. Also, this position will play a key role in delivering programming with a focus on Seniors, School Age Child Care, Summer Camp and the creation of collaborative programs designed to help address community needs. You will provide supervision, support and training to a Wellness/Youth Sports Director and an Aquatic Coordinator. 

The Kankakee YMCA is located South of Chicago, IL half way to Champaign, IL with approximately 5,800 members.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Lead member involvement and relationship building strategies to increase participation, enrollment, and volunteerism
  • Provide and grow high quality, innovative programming which meets the needs of our members and the community. 
  • Assist with our Annual Campaign
  • Assists Program Directors and Coordinators in developing and controlling budgets and is responsible for maintaining budget goals
  • Participates in activities of those committees developing and implementing policy in the area of programming inside the Y and collaborations within the community
  • Interprets and communicates the objectives and programs of our Y to the community
  • Develops, maintains and prepares reports for staff, Program Department and Program committee
  • With the CEO, leads the strategic positioning of our Y to meet the programmatic goals
  • Critical competencies with Volunteer development 
  • Ability to develop staff
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification preferred, or obtained within 6 months
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree required in human services, recreation, business or a related, equivalent field
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of management experience
  • Fundraising and volunteer development experience
  • Experience managing a a budget of 1 million+ 
  • Must have skills and ability in program development and delivery, financial management, coaching and leading staff, members and volunteers 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality
  • Hands on experience with utilizing data to make an informed decisions
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check
  • Pass an Motor Vehicles Record and have own transportation
  • CPR within 30 days of employment and maintain throughout employment
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00
