As we approach the final stages of our expansion, we are searching for a well-rounded & experienced Group Exercise Director that shares our excitement during this growth period. We are adding 106,000 square foot onto our existing building which includes a two-story wellness facility, two gymnasiums, a fully turfed fieldhouse, and an indoor playground. During these final stages we are looking to continue our strong connection and growth with existing members as well as pulling in new members throughout our surrounding communities.
The Group Exercise Director is responsible for the oversight of group fitness classes. This person will ensure that helping people achieve healthy lifestyles is a top priority - achieved by organizing high quality YMCA healthy living programs, and developing department staff that strive to meet the needs of Y-members and the community as it relates to healthy living.
This person will ensure that all YMCA standards are met and/or exceeded as they relate to health & wellness to the members and the community. The Group Exercise Director works independently under general direction from the Associate Director and if need the Executive Director and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks; but is also expected to work as a team with all YMCA staff.
- Select, train, supervise, and terminate fitness staff as deemed necessary.
- Coordinate staff training to be sure all staff are certified in the classes they are teaching, as well as any emergency procedures, Blood borne pathogens training, and sexual harassment training. Also maintain staff CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- Market group fitness event information (launches, challenges, etc.) with Marketing Director.
- Maintain and watch Google calendar to be sure weekend classes are being covered.
- Organize and schedule land group fitness classes.
- Communicate with fitness staff on any schedule changes or any changes that may affect their classes.
- Responsible for submitting fitness payroll to bookkeeper.
- Authorize/track expenses for land group fitness and work with Associate to develop budget for upcoming year.
- Maintain land group fitness equipment by working with maintenance or outside contractors.
- Put classes in the scheduler and Mobile App.
- Update group fitness class flyers, notify Welcome Center, update Website and submit for Y News.
- Utilize announcements on Facebook to assist in marketing classes.
- Hold fitness staff meetings quarterly in three-time slot offerings.
- Oversee that instructor agreements are signed/followed through with; including authorizing reimbursements.
- Assist the Wellness Director in lining up presentations for PATCH Health Fair.
- Review fitness stats to be sure they are continually being updated by designated Welcome Center staff.
- Establish and maintain a successful relationship with area businesses and agencies.
- Promote memberships on a continuing basis.
- Organize and submit information regarding land group fitness for Program Guide.
- Follow Norfolk Family YMCA employee handbook as it relates to staff as directors and serve as a role model to all other YMCA staff.
- Strong communication skills
- Strong teamwork and team building, as well as, leadership and organization
- Planning, development, implementation, and fiscal management are a must
- Must have a willingness to meet the needs of the community within reason as it pertains to current or new land group fitness classes
- Volunteering is an important value in the YMCA, must volunteer as needed
- At least 1 year of experience teaching multiple group exercise formats
- Personal Training Certification
