Context: Acquires, curates, catalogs, organizes, protects, handles and governs digital assets in the form of brand assets/marketing materials, graphics, templates, video files, and more.     

Scope: The Digital Asset Specialist is responsible for handling Sierra Club’s national digital assets, developing strategies for managing these assets, and collaborating with the Colby Library team on the strategies and management of the library’s assets. This role is equally skilled in working with people, processes, and digital asset management technology. The Digital Asset Specialist is highly collaborative and works across the organization with various teams and departments but also uses automation wherever possible.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Evaluate, onboard and manage the Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) which best aligns with the needs of our internal teams. Serve as key change management ambassador and advocate for the internal users of the DAMS tool as well as for the tool itself.
  • Build and maintain upload process, file naming standards, cataloging structure and processes, user permissions, metadata and keyword tagging standards, and asset usage rights guidelines.
  • Work with legal department to craft and maintain up to date photo and asset release forms. Develop digital method for collecting and storing release signatures.
  • Curate and catalog digital assets from all legacy national Sierra Club sources while ensuring all future assets are properly uploaded, cataloged and tagged.
  • Collaborate with IT team to ensure the security of digital asset files. Develop system security policies and perform regular security tracking and monitoring.
  • Build asset request processes for internal and external users.
  • Promote correct use of digital assets with internal teams via internal compliance and communication channels. Develop and provide ongoing training and support to internal users.
  • Track and monitor user adoption, how users are interacting with the digital assets and the system, and how users are functioning within the processes. Find opportunities for improving and streamlining workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure every online communication, promotion, website, etc. utilizes the best available assets.
  • Regularly find opportunities to curate or develop new assets to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Help select, acquire, and promote media resources that support the Club's equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives.
  • Over time, measure DAMS value and return on investment. Develop an understanding of and be able to quantify the value of Sierra Club’s national digital assets as well as any savings realized.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
B.A./B.S. degree in Communications, Marketing, Computer Science, Library Science, or a closely related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3+ years professional experience with digital tools, digital asset management, content management, or closely related field.
  • Understanding of Digital Asset Management (DAM) and Content Management System (CMS) platforms, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and accessibility standards, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), digital rights management, and web publishing.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability to develop and successfully implement a strategic plan for managing the organization’s digital assets. Superb communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborator. Able to work with multi-functional project teams and able to work multiple projects at one time with multiple partners. Project management, internal “client” service skills and an abundance of patience for people.
  • Understanding of content related workflows, knowledge of structured content standards(Metadata, Taxonomy, Tagging, etc), and knowledge of a wide variety of digital asset types.
  • Excellent design and graphic/image editing skills, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Adobe Creative Suite skills.
  • Utmost attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, organize and implement.
  • Strong data and analytics understanding and ability to measure outcomes.
