Context: The Data Analyst supports processes for gathering, analyzing and reporting digital engagement performance data produced from various parts of the Digital Department.

Scope: Metrics and data are critical to guiding the mission of the Digital department for informing the greater Sierra Club about the results of campaigning, fundraising and other activities, and for supporting the roadmaps of digital products. As the Data Analyst, you will join a team working toward helping the Sierra Club become a more data informed organization, supporting the work of the Digital Engagement team.

You’ll understand the essential data relevant to the achievement of Digital Strategies’ department objectives, stay on top of trends in the field of measurement and analytics, test and recommend software and processes necessary for data management and analysis. You’ll also participate in the department’s testing initiatives, working closely with the Senior Data Analyst to help optimize user engagement and conversion (email, Web pages, landing pages, etc.).

  • Data gathering, manipulation, analysis and reporting - 60%
  • Advocacy and data systems support for online organizers - 20%
  • Cross department data team consulting - 10%
  • Administrative - 10%
    • Supports the development of measurement systems for teams, products, and efforts such as email list growth strategies, new online tool evaluation, and online testing to further advance online capabilities.
    • Follow up on data requests generated from and for periodic digital reporting including for Executive Stakeholders and general metrics for multi-functional analytics round table (Communications, Fundraising, Digital).
    • Coordinates cross-departmentally on data analysis, processes, and tools with the goal of understanding how online products are being used and how they are generating results; and making recommendations on where to do things differently.
    • Optimize metrics reports; work with Digital Managers to constantly assess usefulness of performance indicators and metrics.
    • Design processes and analysis for digital products and programs; develop documentation and conduct or assist in training on new data collection methods/procedures. Work with IT to identify and test data integrations needed to support effective reporting.
    • Support the short term data workflow between proprietary and non-proprietary systems .
    • Work with the Senior Data Analyst and Director of Digital Engagement Systems & Analytics on rollout, support, and testing analytics dashboards for management.
    • Inform and play a key role in implementing data structure for cross-functional data systems (e.g. Club-wide campaign and marketing attributes).
    • Support online organizers in Salesforce data systems reporting when necessary.
    • Support Senior Data Analyst working with business intelligence tools to create engaging self-service reporting for leadership.
    • Present data to team, produce key reports for the organization, and other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience:

  • 1-2 years professional experience in analytics, data analysis, or digital advocacy campaign data and metrics
  • Experience with visualization / business analytics tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Einstein Analytics
  • Expertise with Excel and Access
  • Strong familiarity with SQL
  • Familiarity with A/B and multivariate testing, other types of best practice testing processes
  • Some statistical ability in order to analyze comparisons between various data sets
  • Knowledge/exposure to R or Python a plus
  • Salesforce or CRM reporting experience preferred
  • Ability to lay out reports in a clear and compelling, user-friendly way
  • Creative thinking around most impactful and insightful data and its presentation
  • Ability to focus on priorities in a demanding environment.
  • You are an exceptional written and oral communicator, who can partner productively with a diverse group of staff
  • You use tact and diplomacy in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
  • You’ve had experience using data to solve real world problems
