Under the guidance of the Associate Executive Director and in collaboration with the Metro Communications team, the Community Engagement Director (CED) will manage communications, and brand management for the TownLake branch. The CED is responsible for supporting internal and external branch communication.  They will continue to strengthen the YMCA brand and its uniqueness and clearly articulate our mission to the staff, volunteers, membership, and community.

This individual is responsible for communication regarding new and existing programs, branch staff communication, and internal member communication. This person will further ensure that all YMCA standards are being met and/or exceeded as they relate to brand compliance and communication.  This position works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. The CED will also implement branch-specific initiatives to complement and coordinate with the Association marketing/communications strategy and plans.

The Community Engagement Director will support the Key Leadership team to inform branch decisions and work collaboratively to improve the member and community experience. The CED will work in concert with the Membership Director to build acquisition strategies and implement them in the community at large. They will also discover opportunities to establish and fortify the Y voice and culture internally as well as externally and serve as the branches Culture Champion. As the branch Culture Champion they will ensure that new staff is onboarded to culture and achieves completion of onboarding checklist. The CED will supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and help them to cultivate exterior volunteer opportunities. This individual will be responsible for a personal Annual Campaign goal and will help manage Annual Campaign communications.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • The Community Engagement Director is responsible for the creation of communication content for branch programs and initiatives. Responsible for branch communication channels including, but not limited to: YMCA of Austin Website, Facebook, digital signage, and mobile app.  The communication aspect of this position requires that effective and timely communication be a top priority at all times, attending to the needs of each department and accurately conveying information to members in the Y voice.
  • The community engagement aspect of this position requires that this position engage membership and staff through in-person story collection and events and through digital cultivation on social media platforms. Externally, they will seek to engage community through fostering relationships with other organizations, civic service opportunities and discovering opportunities for the YMCA to present in the downtown community at large.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in communication, marketing, journalism or commensurate experience.

  • Experience- One to three years previous experience working in community engagement and in digital media or communications preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, Outlook.
    • Knowledge of graphic design, print production, e-mail marketing, website design & maintenance and social media applications.
    • Must be able to self-critique and organize work based on priority.
    • Thorough understanding of the mission, voice and culture of the YMCA of Austin.
    • Ability to manage projects and coordinate events in conjunction with other staff members and volunteers in order to achieve long and short-range goals of the Association.
    • Proven history of community engagement initiatives
    • Ability to analyze demographics and census data to develop community engagement strategies
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Compensation/Benefits: 

$34,000.00 - $39,000.00
