The J. Douglas Williams YMCA Family Center in Longwood / Lake Mary is seeking a Sports Director. This individual will report directly to the Executive Director and will oversee the day-to-day operations for the sports department, including implementation of all youth and adult sports programming for the Family Center.
The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in programming youth basketball, soccer and/or volleyball. S/he should have previous referee and/or youth coaching experience, as well as experience managing volunteers, including screening, training & scheduling. A high-level of program marketing, communication and social media skills are highly preferred.

- The incumbent will direct and lead a staff team to execute all sport program initiatives that engage new members as well as support the retention of existing members.
- The incumbent will be responsible for growth of program revenue, ensuring proper implementation of all sport program schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for member/staff connections.
- S/he must be able to collaborate and work effectively with all departments to achieve desired goals and results.
- This individual must be able to actively cultivate and partner with program volunteers and members to assure that programs and services meet and exceed expectations.
- S/he will be required to have excellent interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, as well as the ability communicate professionally and represent the Y brand with all members (parents), staff, peers, volunteers, guests and leadership.
- As a Director this individual will routinely be required to trouble-shoot or diagnose concerns of members, participants and volunteers.
- S/he will have responsibilities for staff recruitment, selection, development and retention; including career succession planning for the sports department.
- The incumbent must also have analytical skills, be able to use available technology, reporting tools and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities.
- S/he will routinely evaluate sport programs and collaborate with the Executive Director to establish systems that will ensure safety & risk management standards are met, as well as institute corrective action when necessary.
- This individual must maintain knowledge of all state, local, YMCA of Central Florida health, safety standards, and policies.
- S/he will ensure employees are current with their required certifications according to Association’s guidelines.
- S/he must be able to work during peak times of business, which may include split schedules, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in staff supervision and leadership required.
- Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in managing youth and adult sport programs required.
- Experience managing a revenue budget preferred.
- Experience building partnerships in the community (schools, churches, etc.) preferred.
- YMCA sports or operations management experience a plus
- Microsoft Office proficiency required; PlayerSpace, Oracle or Technogym experience a plus.
- Availability to work during scheduled program times (including evenings and weekends)
- Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid certifications required.
