Warming Center Director

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Overseeing the operation of a community warming center for the homeless supporting our mission of social responsibility.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Day to day management of the Warming Center program.
  • Provides direct supervision to Warming Center Supervisor and shift workers.
  • Handles processing and intake of all participants.
  • Assures program compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Ensures safety and security of facility.
  • Oversees proper implementation of Warming Center rules and guest restrictions.
  • Assumes responsibility for recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation and discipline of staff.
  • Develops and delivers training for staff members.
  • Works with communications team for outreach.
  • Assists in the preparation of short and long-range plans and budgeting as appropriate.
  • On call for emergencies before and after “typical” work hours. Overnights, weekends, holidays.
  • Fills in for other positions outside of normal work schedules as needed.  Must plan to report to scheduled shift regardless of weather conditions.
  • Participates in Leadership Team meetings and overall branch development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Human Services or Social Work, required. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two or more years of related experience in non-profit.  Previous experience with homeless population preferred, not required.
  • Ability to proactively plan, prioritize and self-manage workload. Must be able to independently problem-solve, and self-direct workload and projects when staff are not immediately present to answer questions. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledgeable about office processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach, maintaining confidentiality as necessary. 
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) helpful, but not required.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
  • Previous experience with mental health/drug addiction issues preferred.
  • Must be CPR with AED, First Aid and NARCON Training prior to start of position and maintain updated certifications as long as employed.
  • Must have personal transportation and ability to drive to other locations as needed. Must plan to report to scheduled shift regardless of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment background checks.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $28,000.00 - $32,000.00
