Under the guidance and direction of Executive Director, the Director of Healthy Living is responsible for building a team to best deliver health and wellness options, including new and existing member on-boarding and retention; individual and small group personal training; innovative wellness programming; cutting-edge group exercise oversight for all levels and ages; hiring, continued development and retention of staff; outreach in the local community; and mission advancement of the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Evaluate and deliver consistent, innovative, and high energy group fitness programming and special events. Monitor class participation to expand or modify classes based on customer satisfaction, member retention, and branch strategic initiatives.
- Hire, schedule, develop and manage performance of qualified Personal Trainers, Floor Staff and Group Exercise Staff that align with YMCA values and goals.
- Develop member relationships; respond to member, staff and guest concerns; and assist members with their attaining their wellness goals.
- Build a culture of service delivery that is reflective of the Y mission and responsive to member issues and needs.
- Meet, maintain and track quality standards for assigned departments. Make recommendation for improvement of best practices.
- Serve as the branch liaison for corporate wellness initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with best practices and licensing standards in all Group Exercise classes.
- Identify and implement new industry trends in wellness and group exercise.
- Develop, monitor and achieve budget goals, and develop contingency plans as well as present ideas for new revenue streams and expense savings options.
- Responsible for the successful attainment of department targets, including revenue and member retention.
- Create and monitor staff wellness incentive programs.
- Monitor daily operations to adhere to all YMCA health and safety standards and policies.
- Ensure staff carry appropriate and current certifications, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Create and monitor branch-wide first aid and emergency plans. Maintain proper equipment and train necessary staff.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance of wellness and group exercise areas, as well as manage a time-sensitive process for necessary equipment maintenance and repair.
- Participate as a team member in performing duties necessary to clean and maintain the facility, particularly program areas within direct responsibility.
- Represent the branch at association-health related activities and meetings.
- Assist or lead branch efforts related to mission advancement; volunteer recruitment and management; and financial development.
- Serve as key member on branch leadership team.
- Participate in branch and Association-wide assignments and special responsibilities as designated by the Executive Director.
Educational Background:
Bachelors degree in health or fitness related field or 3 years of equivalent/applicable experience
Skills/Experience:
- Three years progressive experience in health and fitness management which includes program development, member retention and staff development, including a minimum of one year of staff supervisory experience.
- Current and working knowledge of exercise physiology and strength training principles
- Demonstrated competencies in the areas of staff development, relationship building skills, communication skills, conflict resolution, and resource development
- Knowledge of fitness trends in the health and wellness community
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $47,000.00 - $51,000.00
