The experienced, certified teacher will provide leadership and supervision to our four year old classroom. The candidate shall provide a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment for the children. The primary responsibilities are to plan and implement weekly lesson plans based upon child-centered curriculum and be consistent with developmentally appropriate early childhood principles and practices. Additional administrative responsibilities include monthly newsletter, scheduling part time staff, and other duties as needed. Candidate must be a self starter with initiative to work independently. This position requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong customer service abilities and good problem solving strategies. Candidate must possess excellent computer skills and knowledge of desk top publishing a plus.
- Developing age appropriate curriculum and planning enrichment activities to enhance curriculum including art, music, circle time, outdoor play, free play, science, math, dramatic play, movement education, computers, and language activities.
- Maintains and organizes the décor of classroom including classroom displays, learning materials, storage areas etc.
- Submit weekly lesson plans for supervisors’ approval which adheres to state guidelines.
- Carries out and models appropriate and positive discipline as established by the policies of the
- Reports to Childcare Director and assists in implementing the short and long term goals of the Child Care Department and the Association.
- Responsible for input of camp data into Camp Brain database.
- Serves as teacher-in-charge in the absence of the Child Care Director.
- Assists Director with classroom notices.
- Assists Director in handling scheduling, subbing, and coverage in-keeping with state and YMCA guidelines.
- Assists with tours and sales of all programs and being well versed in programs.
- Maintains proper records and files.
- Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
- Works closely with Child Care Director in review and evaluation of program services, staff, and operations, and communicates recommendations to supervisor.
- Attends monthly meetings with supervisor, scheduled staff meetings, and monthly coordinator meetings.
- Assists Child Care Director in development of programs and trainings.
- Plan and implement activities for Healthy Kids Month.
- Prepare calendar and materials needed for activities and events.
- Facilitate CATCH Program.
- Teach CATCH activities weekly in Pre-school and Pre-K classroom
- Assists other staff as deemed necessary.
- Assists in running, planning, coordinating, and promoting special events as related to Child Care and as deemed necessary Association-wide.
- Assists in review and implementation of regulatory information concerning the operation of child care centers.
- Responsible for inventory and ordering of all supplies in-keeping with approved budget.
- Works closely with Child Care Director as an administrative team.
- Assists with planning, coordination, organization, and implementation of summer camp program.
- Strengthens staff morale through open communication, positive attitude, and teamwork.
- Displays a positive and professional attitude about the YMCA and our mission at all times.
- Maintains codes and standards of NJ Child Care Regulations.
- Participates in annual YMCA shutdown.
- 5 years teaching experience preferred
