Network Photographer/Photo Researcher

Reporting to the Photo Director, the network photographer will use a keen eye and technical skill to document, via still photography and video, events and stories that unfold throughout Audubon’s vast network of chapters, offices, centers, and partners. Between assignments, s/he will play a critical role in archiving and researching photographic content for use by the organization.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Travel domestically (and potentially internationally) to document Audubon’s work throughout its multi-tiered network, including people, places, birds, plants, events, still lifes, and portraits.
  • Film interviews and B-roll for use in videos.
  • Perform job independently and professionally while in the field, ensuring Audubon's standard of photographic excellence is upheld.
  • Manage complex photo projects involving multiple stories, locations, and dates.
  • Edit, optimize, and input metadata (captions, credits, and keywords) for photo files and upload them into Audubon’s Digital Asset Management system.
  • Onboard and train new users of the Digital Asset Management system.
  • Handle and archive model releases.
  • Provide photo-research assistance for Audubon’s network needs.
  • Keep informed about ethics in bird and documentary photography.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in visual arts, photography, or related field required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two to four years of professional experience shooting photos and video.
  • Ability to operate in both creative and logistical modes, manage multiple deadlines, and easily pivot between individual and collaborative projects.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Lightroom and advanced Photoshop skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere and video-editing ability preferred.
  • Experience with innovative video tools (such as drones, 360, etc) a plus.
  • Interest in environmental issues, conservation, birds and/or birding.
