The Jeep Rogers Branch Sports Director is a key role at the YMCA of Columbia overseeing the sports programs at the association’s largest branch. Under the direction of the Jeep Branch Executive Director, this person is responsible for developing, organizing and implementing high quality sports programs.

Current Program lineup includes: Adaptive Basketball, Fall Soccer, Winter Basketball, Summer Basketball, Summer T-Ball, Winter Flag Football, Spring Soccer and Summer Specialty Camps. Total enrollment- 1,500 participants, department budget-$100,000, Annual Support Campaign Goal - $10,000.

Constructed in 2007 in Northeast Columbia’s desirable Lake Carolina “Live, Work, Play” community, the Jeep Branch is a 55,000 square foot facility with state of the wellness equipment, cycling and group exercise studios, functional training space, 25-meter indoor pool, gymnasium with indoor track, tennis courts, sports fields, and multiple youth programming spaces, including both indoor and outdoor playgrounds.  As the Columbia Y's flagship, the branch has 3,400 membership units, a $3.3M operating budget, and an $86K annual campaign.

The YMCA of Columbia includes six facility branches, serving Richland, Kershaw, Lexington, Calhoun, and Orangeburg counties in South Carolina.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands sports programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
  • Organizes and hosts season parties and events, promoting healthy eating and good nutrition.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • May assist with Program Committee meetings and Sport Quality Team meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • One to two years related experience preferred.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must complete the following trainings within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen Certification, Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Must have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $34,500.00 - $42,500.00
