350.org seeks a talented and experienced digital campaigner who is committed to ending the age of fossil fuels.  Working with a highly diverse and talented team, the Deputy Digital Director will develop a compelling, effective online presence for 350 and the broader climate justice movement we support. We want to reach new audiences, provide easy and impactful ways for people to join our movement, and support in-depth organizing with a range of digital tools and tactics.

The ideal candidate will have a talent for groundbreaking digital and communications work, with extensive background in building and managing teams that have succeeded in telling great stories and engaging a diverse set of audiences. Day-to-day, the Deputy Digital Director will support global and regional digital staff to create digital strategies, and put the systems in place by which to measure success.

The Deputy Digital Director will work closely with the Digital Director, Global Communications Director, and key digital and comms staff who oversee our editorial calendar, social media channels, and testing and optimisation programme. 350.org is a highly collaborative environment: the best candidates will be those who thrive in this sort of team-based setting.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Developing and executing comprehensive digital engagement strategies
  • Managing key digital staff, supporting them to develop their talent and skills
  • Managing 350’s digital properties (website, social media, blogs) to ensure they always feature a compelling mix of engaging, relevant content that builds momentum, understanding and interest in the climate movement
  • Working with the Editorial Team to maintain editorial balance and consistency with 350’s core messages and narrative
  • Leading a team of digital campaigners, organisers and content producers to create superior, digitally-native content designed to educate and mobilize audiences, including new audiences
  • Developing strategic digital media content partnerships
  • Driving the evolution of digital engagement by identifying and implementing appropriate new engagement tools, approaches and strategies
  • Using a data-informed approach that incorporates testing, analysis and reflection to drive towards a steady increase in online reach, traffic and new audiences
  • Instilling a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values data-informed decision making and learning
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong management skills (people and projects) in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment
  • Strong understanding of digital analytics, including ability to collect, analyze and interpret data to guide data-informed decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience leading geographically dispersed teams, with a track record of success in managing and motivating staff
  • Proven track record of developing, communicating and managing successful digital engagement strategies and campaigns
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex information and implications for a variety of audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively across cultures and timezones
  • Solid systems thinker with a flair for organizational development
  • Strong understanding of online and offline organizing, mobilization, and direct action
  • Experience using some (or all) of the online platforms employed by the digital team, including but not limited to Action Kit, Action Network, WordPress, and social media channels.

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience working in a multilingual context, managing a multilingual digital presence
  • Familiarity working in, or with partners from, the Global South
  • Understanding & experience working with marginalized communities deeply affected by climate change and fossil fuels, such as indigenous communities on the front lines of fighting the extractive industry
  • Experience using some (or all) of: HTML, CSS, SQL, Javascript
  • Demonstrated proficiency around equity, diversity, and anti-oppression work inside organizations
Compensation/Benefits: 

Compensation: Compensation is competitive and will be determined based on a combination of experience, seniority, and the living costs of the location you live in (for some context: for qualified applicants, this position in Brazil will pay between approximately BRL 238,400 - 298,000, in India RP 1,503,300 - 1,879,100, in United States USD 72,000 - 90,000, in Germany 66,600 - 83,300).
