Under the direction of the Gymnastics Director, help coordinate the competitive team, help design the progression and team curriculum and teach gymnastic skills to program members in a safe, professional, and caring manner while assisting them in working toward skill achievement and personal growth. Promote principles of team building and camaraderie between team members, their parents and other team coaches.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Attend practices, trainings, meets and team functions
- Possess strong leadership qualities
- Know and utilize proper spotting techniques
- Know and follow the USA Gymnastics policies and procedures and compulsory routines
- Recognize individual differences and adjust teaching strategies as needed for the success of all gymnasts
- Ability to enforce specific rules and regulations which limit risk to participants
- Design team curriculum (long term goals and daily lesson plans), development and implementation
- Enforcing safety procedures and staff expectations by using supervising skills and if necessary correct or use disciplinary action
- Clean, maintain and monitor equipment for safety consideration and member service.
- Prepare for practice by inspecting gymnastics center and equipment before and after practices and document.
- Assist with staff meetings and trainings
- Recognize and respond to emergencies by following YMCA emergency procedures
- Perform administrative duties as assigned.
- Practices time management skills and communicates with instructors to promote the organizational flow of classes
- Communicates, listens and responds in a professional manner with participants and their parents.
- Builds and maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, volunteers, other staff, and the communities we serve.
- Works to implement the Mission Statement of the YMCA.
- Acts as a positive role model using the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.
- Maintains visual appearance by wearing required staff apparel.
- Attends all department meetings and any other training that may be deemed necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience:
- 18 years of age
- 2-4 years coaching or personal experience required
- Practical knowledge of progressive skill building as related directly to instructional gymnastics
- Working knowledge of USA Gymnastics Jr. Olympic Compulsory Program
- Knowledgeable of USA Gymnastics Jr. Olympic Code of Points and the rules which govern Optional Competition
- Current CPR Certification or able to obtain one within 6 months of hire
- Current USA Gymnastics Safety Certification and Gymnastics or Professional Membership or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
- USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Certification or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
