Under the direction of the Senior Director, Programs & Operations the Sports, Camp & Youth Programs Director is responsible for the management and operation of the youth programs offered at the Princeton Family YMCA. S/he prepares and ensures attainment of program objectives as part of the annual Operations Plan. S/he assists in the development and oversight of the budget. S/he recruits, trains, and develops various program staff. S/he oversees program operations at the Princeton Family YMCA and any offsite programming related sports & various youth programs. S/he ensures proper care and use of assets, facilities are maintained, records are accurate, quality checks are conducted regularly, and all class schedules are comprehensive enough to serve the majority of our membership. S/he successfully promotes and markets programs, special initiatives and events. S/he follows and enforces safety standards and other policies and procedures. S/he performs other duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: SPORTS
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands youth sports program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Sets up equipment for clinics, games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
- During league season, creates teams from registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for volunteer coaches and paid staff.
- Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
- Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards.
- Organizes and conducts sports clinics.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information, may organize and schedule program registrations.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: YOUTH PROGRAMS
- Leads successful development and delivery of targeted, impact-driven programs including Seventh Grade Initiative (7GI), Teen Programs, and Gymnasium Birthday Parties.
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Provides administrative and programmatic support to various YMCA programs directly related to sports, youth, and membership initiatives.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES: SUMMER CAMP
- Develop annual operating objectives and budget for summer day camp.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate all staff and volunteers relative to program responsibilities.
- Plans, promotes and directs innovative summer Day Camp programs.
- Coordinate registration, scheduling and transportation necessary for any Camp programs.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, parents, key community stake holders, volunteers and other community organizations.
- Helps to develop and lead a volunteer advisory committee for Day Camp.
- Display a positive attitude that is conducive to good public relations.
- Play an active role ensuring Camp programs are ACA accredited at all times.
- Keeps equipment in good repair and tracks all inventory used in these programs.
- Attend training events, conferences, and seminars to develop personally and professionally in the YMCA.
- All other duties as assigned.
- One to two year’s related experience preferred; for example, as a coordinator, camp director, coach and/or sport supervisor.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Certified in CPR & First Aid or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to manage multiple program areas.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- This is a non-traditional workweek position. Availability on weekends and evenings may be required.
Salary: $36,000.00 - $44,000.00
