The Development Database Manager is an integral member of the Development Operations team responsible for maintaining NPR’s prospects and donor profiles within the fundraising database. The Database Manager also works collaboratively with the Development Research team. Working directly with Development colleagues, the Database Manager collects information on new and existing constituents, ensures correct entry in the database and supports regular auditing to ensure data integrity.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for creating and maintaining prospect and donor database records, with primary focus on biographical and demographic information, including:
- Cataloging and entry of all available intelligence
- Ensuring consistency and accuracy of the ongoing data entry
- Consulting with other power users, answering questions and directing them through the appropriate data entry procedures as needed
- Work collaboratively with the Development Research unit on research requests and pipeline building projects, including:
- Confirming prospect and donor contact information
- Using research resources to ascertain biographical and financial information, including inclination and capacity rating
- Ensuring new data is captured and recorded in a timely manner for distribution to fundraisers
- Perform regular data integrity auditing and analysis, making recommendations for and undertaking data clean-up projects as appropriate.
- Assist with training new staff members in the database (currently Raiser’s Edge)
- Execute routine queries and reports; help identify and address operational challenges; and participate in short-term projects to help enhance system usage.
- Cross-train Institutional Giving Assistant to serve as to back-up for gift processing.
- Act as liaison with Finance to reconcile gifts to NPR, pass-through gifts to stations, soft-credit information, and ensure accuracy of funds.
- Create exports, reports and customized reports
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree required
Skills/Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in managing a relationship database.
- Advanced working knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge, some experience with Salesforce preferred.
- Must possess knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
- Aptitude for the management and effective use of information systems.
- Knowledge of Crystal Reports/Business Objects highly desirable
- Excellent time management skills and computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Sound judgment relating to confidential projects, donor and/or prospect matters, including effective communication regarding such matters to the appropriate individuals.
- Excellent customer service skills required.
