The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing focused communications and/or media tactics that facilitate comprehension, adoption and advancement of the goals and objectives of the Resilient Islands program and other projects managed by The Nature Conservancy’s Caribbean Division. This position will be based in a The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean regional office (negotiable - Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Miami), and will support activities throughout the Caribbean region. S/he will be expected to collaborate and communicate with media practitioners, government officials, regional and international partner organizations, non-governmental organizations and community groups and be liaison to the media. In this role, the Communications Specialist will be supervised by the Marketing Director, Caribbean.
The Communications Specialist is responsible for implementing and managing communication and media tactics as outlined in approved strategies and plans, at the local, national and regional level. S/he will create, implement and oversee communications strategies and plans for the Resilient Islands (RI) Program and develop annual reports, in close coordination with the Project Manager and Climate Adaptation Director. In collaboration with the Caribbean Division’s marketing and communications team, S/he will support additional in-region outreach, communications and promotional efforts as needed to support The Nature Conservancy in the Caribbean’s regional communications needs. S/he helps facilitate on-going communication between internal and external stakeholders at both the local and regional level and identifies communication and media needs and opportunities within purview. Helps develop speeches, key messages and talking points as needed. Research, write and distribute wide variety of communication materials including but not limited to: op-eds, news releases, fact sheets, web articles, blog posts as directed in program marketing plans. The Communications Specialist employs a variety of communication tactics to communicate goals, objectives and mission. Actively identifies target audiences and skillfully targets messaging to a variety of audiences, including cultivating media contacts on a local, national and regional level. Develops and fosters relationships with internal and external partners including the International Federation of Red Cross.
S/he will be responsible for supporting the communications work of partners in the three RI countries (i) Grenada; (ii) Dominican Republic, (iii) Jamaica.

- Experience leading or managing projects
- Confident communicator and presenter
- Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
- Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated; working command of Spanish preferred.
