We are seeking a Director of Engagement who will lead the strategy to connect and communicate with our network, so that they are positioned to take action that will dramatically impact outcomes for Baltimore students. This staff member is a problem-solver who knows how to influence others to get results. The ideal candidate will be passionate for the job with the ability to communicate effectively, build meaningful relationships, and manage projects successfully.  

As the Director of Engagement, you are personable, creative, and passionate. You live and breathe our brand. In this role, you lead the work for engaging our community in the Baltimore region.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and lead region-wide communications strategy (40%)
    • Build and execute strong external communications for the following constituencies: accepted applicants, incoming corps members, corps members, alumni, supporters and community partners, and the broader Baltimore community.
    • Design knowledge management systems to ensure we have an accurate list of our constituents.
    • Create and implement a communications plan for all of our communications and engagements, including our website, newsletters, alumni survey, social media, webinars, e-blast, events, videos, and Executive Director communications.
    • Serve as our brand ambassador who is responsible for the look, feel, style, and design of TFA-Baltimore communications and engagements including working with traditional and social media.
    • Analyze communication and engagement campaigns to determine and monitor effectiveness.
    • Manage a part-time communications manager.
  • Cultivate and manage key communications relationships to make our network thrive (30%)
    • Sustain strong relationships with Baltimore area organizations and community members.
    • Manage relationships with external communications and marketing agencies/consultants, traditional media, and the TFA national communications team.
    • Promote and/or represent TFA-Baltimore at community events.
    • Build intentional relationships with incoming Teach For America corps members and Teach For America alumni as you help them navigate decisions about their careers.
    • Motivate Teach For America alumni to discover their greatest potential, whether it is staying in a current role or taking the next opportunity.
  • Create content to support regional team goals (15%)
    • Develop prioritized content for our four internal teams to help meet our regional goals.
    • Advise TFA-Baltimore team members on communications projects.
  • Support the Regional Team (15%)
    • Participate in regional duties as assigned such as recruitment, selection, and matriculation events, along with other cross-functional duties and initiatives that accelerate our collective progress toward our regional plan and direction.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree at a minimum
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 4-6 years professional marketing and/or communications experience
  • Knowledge of the current Baltimore education landscape preferred
  • Experience with Photoshop, InDesign or similar graphic design program(s) a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with Salesforce a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of TFA Baltimore network a plus, but not required
  • Creating social media campaigns that get results
  • High level of personal responsibility with exceptional goal orientation and a proven track record of success.

Work Demands

  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel independently to multiple meeting sites distances from one another
  • Ability to navigate school facilities that may or may not be ADA-compliant
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 30 pounds for work purposes
