Under the guidance and supervision of the Executive Branch Director, the Sports and Enrichment Director is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, expansion and evaluation of sport & enrichment programs, as well as involvement with Healthy Living programs in the fitness center. The principle objective will be to develop meaningful programs and services in order to fulfill the YMCA’s mission.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • An understanding of the needs of the communities served by the YMCA and represent the YMCA in a positive manner with specific focus on youth and teen development.  
  • Requires minimum of 24 hours of direct service per week, including but not limited to teaching instructional classes, coaching teams, officiating games, leading rental groups, building and maintaining middle school and teen initiatives, managing leagues and special events.  
  • Responsible for all planning and operations within the Sports & Enrichment Department.  
  • Customer Service and Human relations with general public, membership and staff, ensuring participant satisfaction, program quality, proper registration policies, and safety at all times. 
  • Fiscal Management: Assist in overseeing department operating budget, purchasing equipment, program supplies.  
  • Oversee all aspects of Birthday Party Program, including booking, payments and day of support  
  • Must be able to effectively relate to and or teach various age groups, from preschool age up through adult.  

Leadership: Supervise and Schedule supporting employees including:  

  • Class instructors, Referees, Volunteers, Seasonal Staff, and Camp Staff   
  • Responsible for administering payroll for direct reports  

Organization: Coordinating all aspects Youth & Adult Sports Programming  

  • Maintain database and attendance records for all programs.  
  • Work with directors to provide program brochure content to marketing department according to association schedule to ensure timely production of all program brochures.  

Program Development: create and implement program curriculum  

  • Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model into all program activities.
  • Recruits, trains, and develops program staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Organizes and schedules program registrations.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
  • Secures and schedules other available athletic fields and facilities.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.
  • Assists in branch fundraising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all forms of communication and feedback on a daily basis.
  • Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings.
  • Organizes and conducts coaches training and meetings.
  •  Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules.
  • Develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards.
  • Organizes and hosts season parties and events.
  • Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices.
  • Monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics.  

Marketing: Maintenance of promotional tools; program guide, web maintenance and member database  

  • Work with Facilities Director to ensure safety for all employees and program participants. 
  • Supervise gymnasium, and field facilities including all staff and program participants, and secure facilities for external leagues and events 
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in education, early childhood, recreation, human services or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two or more years related supervisory experience in school-aged child care, teen programming, and/or day camping.  
  • Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements, YMCA standards.  
  • Skills in staff and volunteer supervision, values education, community program development, and fund raising. 
  • Computer skills preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required.
  • Driver’s license required, CDL License preferred. 
  • All staff is required to complete Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; Blood borne Pathogens; Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Awareness.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
