Great opportunity with the Tampa YMCA to join this dynamic, $34 million charity. We are seeking a proven, self-motivated, cause-driven professional to join our team. The Program Director will oversee Aquatics and Sports programming (focus will be approximately 70% to aquatics and 30% to sports). The Program Director will support members in increasing program quality and enrollment, enhancing the membership experience and driving safety initiatives. This position will be responsible for the leadership in aquatics and sports programming, associate recruitment & retention, training and development and overall program growth and quality for a for a small to mid-sized center. This position ensures their aquatics and sports departments operate efficiently and employ a continuous improvement model to meet and/or exceed goals for safety, program quality, membership satisfaction and budgeted revenue.
Safety and Risk Management
- Ensures all Tampa Y aquatic and sports standards and best practices are implemented and followed. Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures all associates are properly trained and prepared for emergency situations. This includes implementing and following in-service and training requirements in addition to ensuring proper reporting of all incidents/accidents according to risk management procedures.
- Maintain proper records, including associates’ certifications, associate meetings, in-service trainings and daily logs used for policy and procedure review.
- Schedules associates in accordance program needs and ensures all safety and program ratios are followed.
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health & safety regulations. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records for pool operation to include pool chemical checks and routine maintenance.
Program Quality and Growth
- Focus on delivering the strategic plan initiatives, best practices and the elevation of program lines.
- Assist in strategy implementation to achieve strategic plan targets for key programs.
- Generates and/or analyzes program enrollment, and revenue to monitor and report on achievement of goals.
- Develop and implement association survey and measurement strategies and action plans - Survey and NPS.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Team Leadership
- Supervises and leads program line to hire, develop, motivate and retain a committed team passionate about the YMCA's mission, safety and service to members, and the Tampa Y promise.
- Serves as a key cause-driven leader within the assigned family center.
- Promotes and adheres to all Tampa Y safety protocols and serves as a resource for peers and associates.
- Must possess and utilize excellent organizational skills, with the ability to delegate effectively, empower staff members, and tailor monitoring of progress to each associates’ unique work styles.
- Advocates for association-wide best practices and is a source for innovative ways to grow programs and enhance the member experience.
- Provides collaborative leadership and guidance to peers through various Cabinet meetings.
- Creation, development, and monitoring of associate development plans and training opportunities that promote career growth within the Y.
- Completes all job related, supervisory and other trainings as required.
- Minimum of one to two years of aquatic supervision experience in a wide variety of program line activities and programming.
- Experience in planning, creative new program innovation and program improvement, budget development, organizational design and strategic hiring, associate professional growth, operational execution, effective delegation and budget management.
- Highly motivated with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals.
- Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with members and others to achieve goals.
- Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.

Required Certifications
- Must obtain within 30 days of employment and then maintain current certifications in CPR/AED Pro, First Aid, Oxygen Administration.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor and YMCA Lifeguard. YMCA Trainer and/or Faculty certifications preferred.
- Certified Pool Operation certification preferred.
- Maintain other required certifications as stated in the training matrix.
- Successful completion of behavioral assessment, background screening and drug test. First Aid, CPR, AED and 02 obtained within first 30 days of employment and then maintained throughout employment.
- This position requires a valid driver license and will require local travel.
