The Brooks Family YMCA opened in June 2017 and has nearly 10,000 members. The roughly 79,000 square foot facility boasts 3 group exercise studios, basketball gym with raised walking/running track, functional training area, PlayZone, teaching kitchen, community room, 10-lane competition pool and family pool, which includes 3 lap lanes and a zero-depth entry.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs lifeguards. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Serves as a lifeguard when needed.
- Organizes and executes in-service lifeguard trainings.
- Assists the Aquatics Director in monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools and pool area.
- Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Assists the Aquatics Director with swim lessons as necessary.
- Assists the Aquatics Director with Safety Around Water program.
- Conducts monthly staff CPR trainings.
- Assesses risk management and communicates concerns and updates with Executive Director.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in assigned programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a head lifeguard or Aquatics Coordinator
- Minimum of two years working at a YMCA or other recreational setting
- Minimum age requirement of 21 years’ old
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,000.00 - $35,000.00
