YMCA of Greater Cleveland has an immediate need for an Area Youth Development Director who is responsible for managing designated Preschool and Licensed childcare programs at multiple sites. The Director will hire and maintain qualified staff, develop new programs, and ensure that the childcare programs meet state licensing standards. The Area Youth Development Director will be accountable for maintaining school system relationships and ensure/monitor licensed status.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Work with staff to develop growth opportunities to increase capacity within YMCA organization.  Recruit and retain qualified staff for all programs.
  • Develop annual program budget of anticipated income/expenditures. Must maintain control of budget incomes/expenditures.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of programs in meeting a community need.  As required, will develop or revise programs.  Develop and implement marketing / promotion in assigned areas.
  • Represent YMCA in appropriate community groups. This includes providing timely publicity, and developing working relationship with local community groups.
  • Implement identified child care programs (examples):  preschool programs, SACC and day camps, in identified  communities according to branch plans.
  • Participate in and/or coordinate fundraising activities as per branch plan.
  • Maintain or exceed established outcomes as per branch plan.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree required, Elementary Education (preferred); or a combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with children.
  • Minimum of one year's experience in staff supervision.
  • Knowledgeable of state licensing procedures preferred.
  • Must meet or exceed state licensing requirements and maintain current certifications in First Aid, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse or obtain within given YMCA timeframe.
  • Must teach and/or arrange for substitutes when Site Child Care Instructors are unavailable to report to work.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets.
  • Knowledge of Step Up to Quality initiatives
