This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Associate Executive Director at the Tuscaloosa YMCA Family Center stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The Associate Executive Director oversees assigned areas of the operation and participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaboration with community stakeholders.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs diverse staff, interns, and volunteers. Holds others accountable for equitable staff promotion, and development. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies that improve organizational performance.
- Assists in budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives. Works closely with Finance Department to ensure operating budgets meet or exceed targets.
- Provides administrative support to the CEO and works closely with leadership staff to ensure operational standards are adhered to efficiently. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Develops organizational goals and strategic plans for fundraising, balancing long-term direction and short-term requirements. Develops systems and manages resources, including the financial development budget, needed to carry out the fundraising plans. Develops appropriate fundraising policies and procedures for the association.
- Develops processes and is actively involved in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects. Maintains database resource file on top community leaders.
- Creates and implements effective communication strategies with compelling messages that inspire others to accomplish the mission and cause with maximum impact. Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.
- Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and association goals and strategies. Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
- Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders and develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
- Administrative oversight of all YMCA marketing efforts and distribution of information. Organizes and maintains programs and oversees all registrations. Assist in the review and processing of program scholarship applications.
- Administrative oversight of YMCA Family Center facility. Manages and maintains facility operations, supplies, oversees maintenance staff and coordinates necessary repair/maintenance needs and/or contracts and serves as the main point of contact for all vendor relations. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and community events.
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in human services, recreation, business or related field, or equivalent, preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
- Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, and program development.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse populations and establish / maintain collaborations with community organizations.
