Graphic Designer, Sr. (GDS) will work closely with and report to Lead Exhibition Designer and Creative Director to conceive and execute museum exhibition themes and visual identity. The position is responsible for the creation of all visual elements: print, interactive, and animated content. GDS will research and curate photography and illustration selects; prepare exhibition renderings and preliminary presentations, layout panels and signage, and recommend and advise the selection of external artists and visual/data specialists. This position includes working autonomously on selected projects and initiatives. Solid experience with video editing and animation software preferred. Some travel required.
- Serve as designer on projects as assigned by Lead Exhibition Designer, Creative Director, and Exhibition Development for NG Museum and Traveling Exhibitions. Create and present design solutions and recommendations to Exhibition Development team through sketches, animations, illustrations or other visual communication. (20%)
- Layout and design work to support exhibition components: style guides, panels and signage, motion graphics, interactive and video content. Collaborate with 3-D designers to create paint and floor plans, visual installations, and trim details for construction elements. Research and curate photography, art and other visual content for inclusion in exhibition storyline and design. (40%)
- Prototype, and coordinate production of exhibition components. (20%)
- Work with Exhibition Development staff, cross-divisional groups, and outside partners on exhibition themes, content and planning. Research and recommend specialty designers and illustrators for project work. Assist with installation of exhibition graphic elements. (10%)
- Provide visual and creative support for Exhibitions Marketing, from advertising concepts to production of campaign elements and other promotional products and collateral, in addition to Special Events and Visitor Experiences as necessary. (5%)
- Maintain digital archival files and libraries of all produced and sample materials. (5%)
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Ideal Candidate is a creative and hardworking individual with mastery of Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator software. Experience with video editing and animation software as well as web design software preferred. Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines. Familiarity with exhibition and/or graphic design field's best practices and procedures.
