The Lead Teacher provides direction for the program and staff, implements program curriculum in the classroom, and provides a high quality experience to children and parents that is focused on the YMCA core values. This position provides direct supervision to a group of children in a classroom and creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. This position may work with infants up to pre-k.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Availability to work varied hours; early mornings, days and evenings.
- Implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
- Design and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
- Greet members and guests in a friendly manner while providing effective communication with parents.
- Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities always maintaining child/staff ratios and within the licensing law requirements.
- Make ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Conduct parent conferences (on request), maintain communication with parents, and engage parents as volunteers. Maintain confidentiality with information concerning children and families.
- Maintain program site and equipment.
- Maintain required program records.
- Implement and develop classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment.
- Supervise and encourage development of Assistant Teachers, Volunteers and other personnel in the classroom.
- Exhibit proper professional attitudes striving to understand all family situations, maintaining confidentiality of staff and family information.
- Assist in swimming, field trips and special events within in the center.
- Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs.
- Preserve strict confidentiality of information regarding children, families and guests.
- Must possess speaking, listening and writing, skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
- Promote and incorporate the YMCA four core values and character development model into all activities.
- Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

- Responds to emergency situations in accordance with CPR, First Aid and Aberdeen Family YMCA policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as required.
- Be involved in community activities to the benefit of the YMCA and its programs.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
- Positively communicate information on all YMCA programs.
- Assist with special events as needed.
- Actively participates in YMCA events.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Associates degree in Early Child Development or related field preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
- One to two years related experience preferred.
- Satisfactory background check.
- Knowledge of effective teaching methods and curriculum development. Ability to design programs to meet the learning needs of infants, toddlers and pre-school children.
- Current CPR-PR (CPR for Professional Rescuer) Certification required.
- Current First Aid Certification required.
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $9.50 - $11.00
