Take the next step in your career with this rewarding opportunity to join the YMCA of South Hampton Roads as the Senior Youth Development Director at the Mt. Trashmore/Salem Family Centers YMCA in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The Senior Youth Development Director is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, planning, supervision and delivery of the licensed YMCA School Age Child Care Program, Preschool program, Summer Day Camp, Holiday Camps and on-site childcare for the Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA and Salem Family Center.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Plan, develop, and implement Preschool, Summer Day Camp, Holiday Camp, and Before and After School programs at the Mt.Trashmore and Salem Family Centers
  • Maintain state license for child care and ensures the YMCA is in compliance for state inspections of the child care facility
  • Provide strong leadership and support for attaining association’s goals and objectives
  • Provide strong fiscal management in all areas of responsibility
  • Communicate YMCA mission and objectives to the community
  • Assist and foster strong Annual Support Campaign
  • Monitor and ensure the achievements of department objectives
  • Prepare the annual income and expense budget for the above-mentioned departments and facility, ensuring the operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position
  • Responsible for the purchase, inventory, and delivery of all program-related supplies
  • Coordinate food and beverage with local distributors for child care snacks and ensure they follow USDA requirements
  • Supervise the Youth Development Director of Preschool & the Salem Center
  • Achieve and maintain the Association Gold Book standards, ensuring the highest quality programs and services
  • Meet HEPA standards in regards to healthy eating and physical activity
  • Work with the Association’s strategic plan on closing the Achievement Gap
  • Serve as staff liaison to board designated committees
  • Participate on related association program cabinets and trainings
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all staff and volunteers in related departments. Conduct all appropriate staff trainings and meetings
  • Responsible for program promotions & marketing
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness and function of all related facilities and equipment for childcare through regular inspections and appropriate actions
  • Attend trainings as related to areas of responsibility
  • Assist with delivery of Center special events     
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree, childhood Education or related field preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • College courses in education, recreation or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years experience in managing, directing and administering school-age programs
  • Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred or must receive within 6 months of hire
  • Current CPR/First Aid/O2/MAT certified preferred or must receive within 60 days of hire
  • MCA Multi Team Leader Certification preferred
