The Senior Technology Advisor, Asset Management reports to the Director, Service Delivery and is responsible for hardware, software, and major systems and services asset life-cycle management throughout the IT organization.

Functional/Technical Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the life cycle planning of IT costs through asset selection, operation, refresh, migration, optimization, retirement and disposal.
  • Define and implement the necessary processes and governance for everyone at AARP who manages, uses, or accesses IT systems, or is involved in IT asset life cycle management.
  • Performs financial and operational analysis of software and hardware assets for IT/Systems.
  • Coordinates the gathering of asset data for both System's capital and expense budgets  
  • Create policies and procedures for vendor asset management team(s)
  • Develop strategy for implementation of Asset Management and Configuration Management integration
  • Responsible for all software license, maintenance and contractual agreements to insure company compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and governance requirements.
  • Provides financial and operational reporting to Senior Management.
Areas of Responsibility: 

The Senior Technology Advisor, Asset Management requires the ability to balance tactical day-to-day initiatives with strategic initiatives. This position requires a degree of autonomy related to working across ITS domains, within AARP business units, and with vendors, outsourcing partners and others.

  • Provide analysis of budget transactions for the major IT expenses within the organization.
  • Develop and improve processes for asset additions, transfers and disposals in the Asset System.
  • Develop and enhance methodologies and practices for all IT asset life-cycle management in accordance with best practice as part of a continuous improvement program
  • Analyze software discovery data and configure/create discovery tools/scripts.
  • Implement and manage IT life-cycle management framework and program for status reporting, metrics and benchmarks.
  • Track and analyze all acquisition and entitlement costs to ensure accurate transaction accounting for all IT assets in accordance with copyright and right-to-use contractual agreements.
  • Maintains updates / changes to system asset expense and budgets throughout the year to keep in alignment with the projected figures.
  • Coordinate all IT asset management activity across the organization to enable business collaboration that reduces the life-cycle and risk of
  • all IT assets deployed in the enterprise
  • Evaluate, select, implement, and monitor IT asset management tools to report and audit asset entitlements across the organization.
  • Integrate IT asset management tools and systems with financial systems for complete life-cycle management and financial tracking of IT assets.
  • Consult with appropriate vendor and procurement managers, and business unit stakeholders to manage the response to software vendor audits or software validation request.
  • Maintain a definitive database of record of all IT assets in support of organization procurement activity for volume purchase programs.  
Educational Background: 
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting or Finance
Skills/Experience: 

Desired Education

  • Certification as a Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) and/or as a Certified IT Asset Manager (CITAM)
  • ITIL Certification

Candidate Qualifications:         

  • 8+ years IT Asset management experience
  • Software Asset Management Lifecycle experience
  • ITAM and Applications management
  • Writing of policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of complex vendor software contracts, licensing terminology, and software licensing rights, especially for major software vendors (IBM, Oracle, CA, Microsoft).
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Knowledgeable of network, server and PC hardware at a component level
  • Knowledgeable of software licensing
  • Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with internal contacts and vendors.
  • Detail Orientated
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
