Teach For America Baltimore seeks a Managing Director (MD), Development to lead the fundraising efforts for the Baltimore region.  The Managing Director, Development collaborates closely with the Executive Director, senior leadership, and board members to build a foundation for our current and future work. You are energized by the challenge of developing a diverse and sustainable investor base throughout Baltimore, leading a team to raise approximately $7M annually.

The MD, Development sits on the regional leadership team and is a vital contributor to the overall vision and success of our work to develop and leverage the leadership and network of our 1200 local corps members and alumni.  You must be able to build strong and sustainable relationships and have the capability to interact within all levels of the organization and external constituents.  You are strategic and can successfully operationalize complex plans, leading your team to success.  You are consistently learning and growing, compelling and inspiring in all communication, big-picture oriented but passionate about the details, and laser-focused on achieving outcomes and moving the needle towards the regional vision.  Above all, you bring flexibility and focus to fast-paced, high-stakes work, and eagerly leverage data to develop and implement smart strategy.

The Managing Director, Development reports to the Executive Director and will manage three staff members.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Development

  • Craft, execute and evaluate strategy to achieve the region’s funding goals annually, and with a long-term view
  • Analyze past regional performance, current and future regional funding needs, and regional landscape to set ambitious, yet feasible, donation and donor retention goals
  • Regularly assess and report on team wide progress to goals, identify what is driving and impeding progress, and developing solutions to address gaps and adjust course as necessary
  • Facilitate Executive Director strategic involvement in regional fundraising efforts that best leverages their time and talent
  • Support Regional Advisory Board involvement in development initiatives
  • Inspire and motivate the Executive Director, Regional Advisory Board, and other senior staff to embrace your vision for unique roles in development operation
  • Oversee and execute multiple development related events of various scales
  • Partner on our external messaging, marketing materials, and communications

Management

  • Manage a team of three staff members toward specific, ambitious, and high-stakes goals with an emphasis on strong coaching, development, and cultural leadership
  • Ground team in the regional vision and strategy, enabling them to plan and execute successfully towards quarter and yearly goals in a disciplined and strategic way
  • Build and maintain a positive Development Team culture
  • Partner with colleagues to build smart cross-functional collaboration structures to maximize efficiency and effectiveness across the team
  • Develop the capacity of your team to leverage data to increase efficiency and effectiveness

Regional Responsibilities and Professional Development

  • Support, attend, and/or participate in regional team activities, including regular staff meetings and retreats, and regional pre-service (one week in June).
  • Participate in team-wide initiatives and campaigns, such as selecting and matriculating corps members and outreach to our local alumni
  • Sit on our Regional Leadership Team, informing key decisions and strategies across the region
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 6-8 years of professional experience, with successful management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated results in meeting ambitious fundraising goals and/or external relationships in past roles
  • Demonstrated ability to both motivate and manage team and others to achieve ambitious, measurable results

Work Demands

  • Occasional conference travel 1-2 times per year
  • Some weekend and evening work required
