Under the guidance of the Branch Executive, the Membership/Wellness Director oversees the management of the Wellness and Membership programs, providing leadership and vision to Wellness and Membership staff. The Membership/Wellness Director is responsible for planning, developing and maintaining programming and creating collaborations with peers, staff and members and the community in order to meet the needs of the programs and actively increase membership to the YMCA.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain quality and ensure that the needs of the members and the community are met with the Wellness and Membership programs.
- Address member complaints and resolve problems.
- Ensures a culture of diversity, inclusion and exemplary member service.
- Prepare and manage budget and adhere to association policy regarding fiscal compliance to meet or exceed budget targets.
- Create and maintain program calendars and ensure that all membership staff has current and accurate program information available at the membership desk.
- Maintain current and accurate membership records in appropriate software program.
- Review financial assistance applications and communicate with applicants in a timely manner.
- Give tours of the YMCA facility and educate people of the YMCA’s core values.
- Guide and lead staff in planning, developing, implementing and maintaining all wellness and membership programming. This includes responsibility for the health and safety of each program participant; keeping areas safe, clean and orderly; maintaining records and statistics dealing with each program; and enforcing safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Provide supervision to staff including interviewing, hiring, goal setting, performance management, and training as well as planning, assigning and directing work.
- In coordination with the association plan and Association Membership Program Team, conduct periodic membership appreciation events, internal campaigns, and continuous external prospecting and relationship building to increase membership and improve member retention.
- Develop and ensure growth within Wellness and Membership programs.
- Communicate effectively with support services, Branch Executive and other program leaders to coordinate programs and the needs of groups.
- Participate and serve as a Team Captain in the Annual Campaign.
- Meet the association standard for attendance, punctuality and dependability; keeping in confidence matters related to office or personnel; and, exercises good judgment around areas of responsibility.
- Attend and participate in YMCA of Southern Maine Program Team meetings and Association Leadership Team meetings.
- Adheres to all Y Brand guidelines and receives prior approval for use and creation of any Y related social media from the Advancement department.
- Is an advocate to the Y by promoting our cause. Assists with the annual campaign by increasing awareness about the campaign in and outside of the Y and identifying prospective donors and/or volunteers.

Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience
Skills/Experience:
- 4-6 years of experience in a membership, marketing, relationship building environment.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Effective problem solving skills and ability to work with frequent interruptions.
- Detailed-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly express ideas both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, ability to meet deadlines, and the ability to be flexible and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present information in a clear, understandable language in a group or one-on-one situation. Self-motivated and possess ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification within 30-days of hire.
- Experience with budgeting process desired.
- Maintain certification or re-certification and/or by taking CEC’s. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office or Mac equivalent.
- Effective problem solving skills, multi-tasking, and strong organizational skills
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00
