This AmeriCorps position serves with The Nature Conservancy over an 11-month period to advance our work in improving private and public lands by providing outreach and education strategies by coordinating volunteers to help provide outreach to local communities and provide environmental education experiences.
The Education and Outreach Coordinator implements community outreach and educational strategies that effectively communicate The Nature Conservancy's conservation messages and promote its conservation and community-involvement efforts.
- Assists in developing educational program content;
- May produce publications, materials to promote and increase public awareness (not fundraising);
- Establishes and develops collaborative relationships with local schools, universities, state/local agencies and corporations that are involved in environmental education and conservation to promote, expand and implement The Nature Conservancy's educational and conservation initiatives;
- Manage the coordination and logistics of planning, execution and impact of various environmental outreach programs and projects;
- Perform administrative functions as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Coordinate projects and set priorities
- Networks with diverse groups, including land owners, conservation partners
- Adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances
- Interpret guidelines & analyze information
- Duties are performed under direct supervision and established guidelines, with opportunity to act independently on some tasks
- Demonstrate common sense, flexibility and teamwork with ability to exercise independent judgment
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information
- Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects
- Financial responsibility may include purchasing, processing invoices, contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget tracking
- Write, edit & proofread written materials for use with project development and presentation
- Coordinate with vendors/other parties to execute projects/deliverables
- Serve as a team member for assigned projects
- Willingness and ability to travel withing the geography assigned.
- U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Satisfy the National Service Criminal History check eligibility criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with MS Office
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues
- Commitment to complete 11 months as AmeriCorps member
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage diverse activities to meet deadlines
- Experience in public speaking experience and/or education
- Experience in business writing and/or editing publications or related materials
- Experience coordinating multiple projects
- Ability to work independently
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Interest in the mission and activities of The Nature Conservancy
- Database skills, including managing and tracking data, and producing reports;
- Prior experience with ArcGIS software
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
